Teen sets himself on fire at WalMart

In an apparent attempted suicide Friday morning, a local 17-year-old set himself on fire in the electronics section of a Middletown store.
According to the Middletown Division of Police, the teen walked into the electronics department at the Towne Boulevard WalMart just before 9:15 a.m. Friday and lit his jacket on fire.

Reports said the man, from the 2000 block of Arlington Avenue, used a lighter and tissues stuffed in his pocket to ignite his jacket, which became "severely burnt."
The WalMart store manager told police he used a nearby fire extinguisher to put out the flames before the 17-year-old sustained any injuries.
The teen's mother told police her son was distraught after having recently broken up with his girlfriend.
He was taken to Middletown Regional Hospital for evaluation.
