Trish Schumann put her stamp on Fairfield as she opened her new scrapbooking business, Artfully Simple, last weekend.

"I wanted to do something that I enjoy and is not too stressful," she said.

The former Stampin' Up demonstrator was an owner in the Stamp and Scrap Club in Western Hills, and decided it was time to turn her part of the business over to her partner and work closer to home.

"You couldn't ask for a better location," said Schumann, 55. "Easy access, easy to get to. And there are a lot of stampers in Fairfield."

Her business at 2324 Mack Road is about a mile from Interstate 275 and Cincinnati Mills Mall.

Schumann also quit her full-time job as national sales manager for RWI Transportation. At Artfully Simple, people come in with their own paper and adhesive and use any of her tools.

"I've got over $1,000 worth of scrapbooking tools that they can use that they don't have to purchase themselves," she said.

Schumann believes residents throughout Butler and Warren counties will respond.

"We had customers come all the way from Kings Mills that would come all the way over to Western Hills and scrap every Friday night," Schumann said.

She said word of mouth advertisement got the stampers and scrappers in Warren and Butler counties to go to Cincinnati's west side.

Schumann's love of scrapbooking came when her son, Matt, was shipped to Iraq as a contractor.

"I was a basket case. I thought, 'What am I going to do with my evenings,' " she said.

During that time, she was invited to a Stampin' Up party, where demonstrators present and sell their products.

Eventually, she became a demonstrator.

"It really kept my mind off of Matt, and then he came home and I had all this stuff," she said.

People can purchase day passes for $8 or purchase memberships — three months for $60, six months for $85 and a year for $135.

The store open is from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, call (513) 858-1400.
