Electrodiagnostic Tests Best for Carpal Tunnel

MONDAY, June 10 (HealthScoutNews) -- Electrodiagnostic tests are the most accurate tool for diagnosing carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), say experts from three medical associations.

The American Academy of Neurology, the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and the American Academy of Physical Medicine endorse a guideline that says electrodiagnostic tests provide accurate diagnosis of CTS.

Electrodiagnostic tests involve the stimulation of the muscles and nerves in the hand.

The experts from the three associations reviewed 113 reports on electrodiagnostic tests published since 1993 in order to develop the recommendation.

The guideline appears in tomorrow's issue of the journal Neurology.
