DAYTON — Dayton Power & Light Co. is now offering customers the option of paying a few extra dollars per month to support generation of electricity from wind, solar, hydro or other renewable resources.

The program, which DP&L calls "green pricing," supports the purchase of renewable energy certificates that come from renewable sources of electric power generation. One of the certificates is produced when one megawatt-hour of electricity is created by a renewable energy generator.

The certificate is then sold to a buyer, an individual or an organization, which helps support the generation of power from renewable sources.

Customers who choose to participate in DP&L's optional program must pay a minimum of a $2 premium to purchase 200 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy in any given month.

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has approved the "green pricing rider" program on a trial basis through Dec. 31, 2009.

DP&L is following the lead of other major, investor-owned Ohio utilities that began similar programs in 2007, including Duke Energy Ohio, American Electric Power-Ohio and FirstEnergy Corp.

DP&L customers may enroll online at www.dpandl.com or by calling the company at (937) 331-3900 or toll-free at 1-800-433-8500. Information will also be available in DP&L's May bill insert.
