The Reds beat the Brewers 5-1 on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati in the final game of a three-game series.

 
  • July 6, 1938: Crosley Field was the site of the first ever All-Star Game in Cincinnati, and three Reds were in the starting lineup to help the National League score a 4-1 victory. Cincinnati catcher Ernie Lombardi and first baseman Frank McCormick combined for three hits with one RBI and one run scored, while Johnny Vander Meer started the game on the mound and picked up the win with three innings of one-hit ball. All eight NL position players played the entire game, and only Bill Lee and Mace Brown followed Vander Meer to the mound. Joe DiMaggio scored the lone run for the AL.
  • July 14, 1953: Future Hall of Fame pitchers Robin Roberts and Warren Spahn held a potent American League lineup to one hit through the first five innings, while Cincinnati’s Ted Kluszewski started at first base and hit cleanup, going 1-for-3 to lead the National League to a 5-1 win at Crosley Field. Gus Bell, in his first season with the Reds, started in center field and went 0-for-3. The Dodgers’ Pee Wee Reese was the star of the game, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
  • July 14, 1970: One of the most memorable All-Star Games in the 81-year history of the event, the National League beat the American League in the 12th inning when the Reds’ Pete Rose bowled over Cleveland’s Ray Fosse at home plate for the winning run. The game was played at Riverfront Stadium, which had just opened two weeks earlier due to construction delays. Rose, who went 1-for-3 with a walk after replacing Hank Aaron in the fifth inning, was one of four Reds to appear in the game, joining starting first baseman Tony Perez (0-for-3) and starting catcher Johnny Bench (0-for-3), along with second baseman Joe Morgan (1-for-2, run scored).
  • July 12, 1988: The All-Star game came one day after steady rain washed out the Home Run Derby, marking the only time the event was not held since it began in 1985. The American League beat the National League 2-1 on the strength of Terry Steinbach’s two-run home run off Doc Gooden in the third inning. Shortstop Barry Larkin (0-for-2) and third baseman Chris Sabo were the Reds’ representatives in the game. Sabo, who would go on to win National League Rookie of the Year honors, made only a brief appearance in the game, stealing second base as a pinch runner for Gary Carter in the seventh inning.
  • Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig will be at Great American Ball Park today to announce the 2015 All-Star Game will game will be held in Cincinnati, according to the Associated Press.
