Community members will have the opportunity to experience the arts and create some of their own during the Macy’s Arts Sampler on Feb. 11 and 25, and March 10.
The event, presented in connection with ArtsWave, is celebrating its 26th year and features free arts events at more than 50 organizations across the Greater Cincinnati area.
According to ArtsWave director of communications Rebecca Bromels, residents can participate in anything from bus tours of murals to puppet shows and arts and crafts classes at venues of various sizes.
She said ArtsWave’s signature event has grown throughout the years.
“It used to be just one (day) back when we were the Fine Arts Fund,” Bromels said. “Last year, for the 25th anniversary, we extended it to six (days).”
Bromels said a compromise was made this year to hold it on three Saturdays in order to provide a wide range of programs while keeping it manageable for area arts organizations.
The Fitton Center for the Creative Arts will be participating in the event Feb. 11.
The center will host an all-day free open house beginning at 10 a.m.
It will include art and music exhibitions along with art making for the family.
Several other programs will take place in Butler and Warren counties:
• Fairfield Community Arts Center will host Cincinnati Opera’s “Opera Redux: Porgy and Bess,” an hourlong version of George Gershwin’s opera set in 1930s South Carolina, at noon Feb. 11, and also an empowerment drum circle led by trained HealthRhythms facilitator Roberta Schultz at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 11.
• Nrity Arpana School of Performing Arts in Mason will host an open house in which attendees can experience traditional Indian dance and performance arts beginning at noon Feb. 25.
• Sharonville Fine Arts Center will host traditional African drumming and dance from the Bi-Okoto Cultural Institute at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 25.
