One of India’s most successful bands will perform at the University of Cincinnati on Saturday as part of the Harmony music festival.

Harmony 2009 starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at UC’s Kresge Auditorium, and will feature Indian Ocean, a “world-renowned contemporary fusion music band that plays an eclectic original mix of various genres — rock, jazz, classical and folk music,” according to music critic Richard Marcus.

The band has been nominated as one of MTV’s Artists of the Month, and its album, “Desert Rain,” was number two on the iTunes UK music chart in 2006. Indian Ocean also has performed at the New Zealand Arts Festival, the Melbourne Arts Festival and the Smithsonian FolkLife Festival.

Tickets for the show range from $15 to $50 and are free for UC students.

Harmony 2009 is presented by the Cincinnati chapter of the Association for India’s Development, which promotes inclusiveness and mutual understanding in the community and has been recognized for its efforts by the Just Community program at University of Cincinnati. AID has been presenting Harmony cross-cultural programs over the years.
