LEBANON - These Hearts began kicking around its hometown of Fargo, N.D., and the surrounding area in 2007. However, life really changed for the Christian hardcore band last year when label Victory Records sent the lads on tour in support of their full-length debut “Forever Ended Yesterday.”
Daryl Van Been (guitar) took time recently to discuss life on the road with bandmates Ryan Saunders (vocals), Kyle Colby (guitar), Tyler Rice (bass) and Isaiah Folk (drums), who perform at The Venue 42 in Lebanon on Thursday.
Q What’s happening today?
A “We left Fargo this morning, and we’re on our way to the Twin Cities. It’s the beginning of our monthlong tour. We’re starting the year off strong, I guess, and hopefully we’ll keep on keeping on after this one. The album has been out about a half a year now, so we’re still continuing to hit up the markets we did in the summer. We’re trying to reach our fans again and again and keep playing shows for them.”
Q How are you guys adjusting to life on the road?
A “Up until signing to Victory, we really hadn’t done any intense touring, but it’s been pretty busy the last couple of months, so I think we’re all getting used to it.”
Q What’s been the hardest part of touring?
A “I’d say, for this tour I’m mostly worried about places to sleep. It’s getting really cold out, and we’re heading further north. It’s too cold to sleep in the van, so we’ll have to play it by ear and hopefully not freeze to death.”
Q What was one of the most surprising aspects of taking the full-length on the road?
A “There are certain songs we thought would go over better, but crowds haven’t really responded to them. You can definitely tell what choruses everyone likes to sing along to so you try to copycat that later.
Crowds always seem to like our heavy parts, so we’re definitely going to keep that going.”
