MIDDLETOWN — There’s not much room to hold a race at Sorg Opera House, but that won’t stop area racer Sloan Henderson from appearing at the venue Saturday, April 18.
Henderson, 16, a Franklin High School student, will appear at Road Apple Music’s wrestling matches to sign autographs, said Debbie Hall, who works at the business. RAM wrestling, a type of junior league, will begin at 1 p.m. and Xtreme Valley Wrestling will be at 7 p.m. Henderson will meet fans between the matches.
Henderson will bring two of her cars: her smaller quartermidget car that got her into racing, plus the NASCAR Whelen All American model. Kids will be allowed to sit in the cars, she said.
Henderson has been racing for about five years, though it wasn’t cars that interested her at first — it was horses. But that had more serious consequences than she thought.
“I wanted to teach my horse how to trail ride. But a deer spooked the horse, I broke my jaw and they said ‘You can’t do that anymore,’ Henderson said.
Once Henderson found out about the quartermidget cars, “I just fell in love with it from there,” she said.
Henderson encourages prospective racers to try the smaller cars first because “stuff happens quickly — it’s a good starting point.”
The day before her appearance at Sorg, Henderson will make her season debut in a NASCAR Whelen Series stock car at Kil-Kare Raceway in Xenia.
The cost for the matches is $5 for the RAM Wrestling and $6 for the Xtreme, or $10 for both. The Sorg Opera House is at 57 S. Main St. in Middletown.
