FAIRFIELD — A local man is seeking to help the family of a firefighter who died after battling Leukemia.
A fundraiser event is being conducted in memory of Lt. Donnie Scott, 30, who died Nov. 18, 2009. Scott was a member of the St. Clair Twp. Fire Dept. as a volunteer fire lieutenant. He was also the sole provider for his wife, Lesley; his daughter and three sons.
John Day, a member of the Fairfield Twp. Fire Dept., is asking residents to attend the benefit from 5:30 to 10 p.m. March 1 at Rick’s Tavern in Fairfield.
Day said Scott was a strong man devoted to his family, friends and community, and the event is in honor of his life.
“Despite the period of time Donnie fought with this terrible disease, Donnie continued to devote himself to others, by working on fire department tasks, always inquiring about others’ well-being and encouraging them … while he was the one faced with imminent death,” Day said in a release.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Donnie Scott Benefit Fund at First Financial Bank in Seven Mile, which in turn goes to the Scott family.
Event organizers will provide food, entertainment and conduct a silent auction. Rick’s Tavern is located at 5955 Boymel Drive.
