Wilmington Pike chicken restaurant closes
CENTERVILLE — The Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuit restaurant at 5800 Wilmington Pike near I-675 has closed.
The closing has no impact on the Popeye’s restaurant at 3796 Salem Ave., which remains open and will continue to operate, according to a man who declined to identify himself and who answered the phone at the Wilmington Pike restaurant and confirmed its closing. The man said he manages the Salem Avenue Popeye’s but was at the Wilmington Pike restaurant to take inventory. He declined to identify the franchise owners of the Popeye’s.
A spokeswoman for Atlanta-based Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen said in an email today, Jan. 7, that she had no information on the closing, saying she “cannot comment on the personal matters of a franchisee and their location.”

Too bad the owner owes people a lot of money for things he’s purchased. Maybe his Dr. wife will take care of his bills.

Fast food needs to be fast and good, based on the location and service this place provided neither. The restaurant biz is survival of the fittest and this place wasn’t fit to survive. I went once, and never went back.

You know living in the area the product was good but they just couldn’t deliver. Every time I was there during dinner the chicken was either heat lamp over nuked or most of the time they were always out of chicken. So I sat there with many others waiting on my chicken. Does that tell you anything ? If the chicken was like I had in Florida the location would have work and people would have come to it.

Popeyes was the best! The manager was great. Where else can you get such crispy, fat fried chicken & red beans and rice! We will miss Popeyes..one of our favorite places.

It’s not being mean it’s just being honest to say that the food and service here were subpar, even by fast-food standards. Surprised they lasted this long.

Good riddance. Food mediocre. Service poor. Location poor and very inconvenient, even though I visit the nearby Home Depot on occasion. But get ready for more useless sprawl in the same neighborhood as greedy Centerville presses ahead with development of the Dille property. It should stay green!

I’ve eaten there several times and have received great service, I agree when the speaker was out ,was a pain.I don’t relish going NORTH THAT IS A PAIN! SO,its back to Churchs on Riverview.

I have to say I have Never eaten at that location but it is a terrible spot for a fast food restaurant. If i remember correctly Gold Star Chili was at that same location and it met the same fate. It is more a shopping spot there than a fast food spot

I order the food and they gave it to me on a foam plate or a paper box (for carry out) there is no customer service in fast food. I ate on Wilmington Pike and Salem. I live in Bellbrook. The food was equal at both. It was not a variable. It disappoints me how nasty people can get with a business closing. If everyone who is complaining actually ate there they would be open. The traffic count is great at that location but to get to it is hard, very hard. That strip center has had other food places close too. It is actually in Centerville and Centerville has controlling zoning over that area restricts outside advertising more severly than most communitities. The center is best suited for destination services that are like the eye glass place, UPS store, things like that maybe a spa…. But for an business that needs impulse sales. The center was poorly designed. It just sprawl. The operator is selling a low cost item — fast food—and must cover labor, overhead, food and paper goods and pay taxes. You do that with volumne and that comes, in part, an importnat part, through location and access to cars. All of these arm chair critics what a hoot. Those that lead lead, sometimes they stumble but they lead…Those that don’t sit back and find fault. No profile in courage with these bloggers… And that includes Larry too (LOL) Beth

Spoon, are you kidding? Ever been to a 5 Guys before? They are all in some sort of shopping center. I’ve never seen one as a stand alone. I’m taking it you’ve never been to the one in Centerville, because if you had, you’d know that people have absolutely no problem getting there. It’s practically standing-room only. It’s always busy!

As a Cajun, my vote goes to Church’s for the chicken but Popeye’s for the sides and biscuits. Which reminds me of an old joke. Q: Did you hear they are burning all of the church’s in the south? A: I don’t care, I like Popeye’s better!

I have gone to this place on several occasions.Last time I went they refused to sell me chicken. I was having problems w the speaker in the drive-thru, went to the window and told the guy (who appeared to be a manager) that each time I went there, the service was horrible. He proceded to tell me to “have a nice day” and shut the window in my face. No wonder they went out of business.

About a month ago, I met my wife and 2 kids there for lunch. The staff was ok. After the lady took our order, it took 30 minuets to get our food. The ice machine was out of ice and the employee only offered a small cup of ice for four drinks. Really, as I was waiting for our food, I told my wife I would never eat at Popeye’s again. So this closing does not surprise me at all.

Mr Williams is not the owner. Amazing the store on Salem doing better business than the suburbs? I have been to both and didnt see any difference in the food and was never inconvenienced,I just think it was hard to get into in that little strip mall. With that said ,how about some more food paces north. we like to eat too without driving 20-20miles. I know the south suburbs is where the money ,ever heard of being oversaturated? Those two new burger franchises[ especially five guys ] are gonna realize that location is hard to get into.

The service was horrible. The place was not clean. And although I like Popeyes, this version was always overcooked, out of what you wanted, or messed up. Good riddance.

I have to agree with winnerwinner. Chicken Louie’s is greatly missed. Popeye’s is the only chain that comes close, and it isn’t close. I wonder how Rockets Chicken on Third, where Chicken Louis was for a short time after it was Chicken Jake’s, is.

I’ll join the chorus that the customer service here was horrible. And although I like Popeyes, the quality here was very low. Over cooked chicken and sloppy presentation along with a dirty interior.

I love me some Popeye’s chicken. Lived in New Orleans for a long while and they’re on every corner like McDonalds here. Been to this one twice. Can’t say service was that bad. Love the Cajun Mashed Taters. That being said, I can not see me making the trek from B’creek to Salem Ave. for it. They finally made the move to the south suburbs and now they’re closing it. WTF? When they came to Dayton, they were only Salem and on Gettysburg. With the former being closed for a while now due to the robberies. DAMN SHAME!!!

I read this literally as I was eating my lunch of left over Popeye’s chicken. It was over cooked and greasy. I have eaten at this location many times and, up to now, found the food and service to be up to the standard I have experienced at other locations. Their location was very bad as it wasn’t easy to get to. I hope that another one opens up at this end of town.

We don’t know why the restaurant closed, Jack. Sure, it may have been because business is down. But there are lots of reason why it could have closed and the DDN’s job is to tell us why. They could not, but they made the attempt. Also, the difference between “your” and “you’re” is subtle but important.

While I do LOVE some Popeye’s chicken, I only dined at this location once. They acted like I was a bother to them and they were out of a lot of what I wanted. The chicken is very good and I love the red beans and rice, but this location need to either go or get under management. I’m sorry it had to be the former.

I tried it twice from there after eating at several locations outside Dayton. That was the worst Popeyes I ever ate at and the employees were about as interested in the customers as DP&L are about giving us a discount this month.
