East St. Louis gets a 3-yard touchdown run from Detchauz Wray to close the Middies lead to 6 points, 20-14, with 5:06 left in the first half.

Penalties kill punt return for TD

An apparent punt return for a touchdown by Middletown’s Jerry Gates was negated by two penalties.

The Middies then were forced to punt the ball away.

Middies get first turnover

Middletown captializes on the first turnover of the game to take a 20-7 lead.

East St. Louis fumbled the ball at the 40-yard line and it was recoverd by Middletown. A penalty poushed the ball up to the 26 and 8 plays later Antonio Banks ran in from 3 yards out for a 20-7 Midletown lead with 28 seconds to go in the first period.

Penalties hurting

A couple of penalties have hurt the Middies slightly, but with 3:10 left in the first quarter the Flyers are backed up on their 35-yard line facing a first down and 24 situation.

Middies up early

Middletown scored on itrs first possession of the game on a 46 yard pass from Caleb Watkins to Kevin Watts, but missed the extra point kick for a 6-0 lead.

East St. Louis responded with a scoring drive of their own capped by a TD pass from Detchauz Wray to Keante Minor for a 7-6 edge.

But the Middies responded as well and took a 13-7 lead on a TD pass from Watkins to Nick McKnight.

Postgame notes Centerville at Mason

Centerville rolled to an impressive 34-14 win over Mason on Friday, Sept. 4 at Dwire Field.

The Elks put up some pretty impressive numbers including 611 yards of total offense, including 431 rushing while keeping the ball for 31 minutes and 20 seconds.

Centerville didn’t punt once.

On the other side, Mason rushed for -1 yard and only had possession for just over 16 minutes.

The Alex Farren to Ethan King touchdown pass went for 80 yards and set a new school record. The old touchdown pass record was a 77-yard strike from a 1990 game against Lebanon.
