Peanut butter off the menu for some local schools
Peanut butter is off the menu for now at one local school district.
Carlisle Local Schools pulled all peanut butter products after news of salmonella linked to products made at the Peanut Corporation of America’s Blakely, Georgia processing plant.
Food Service Director Lois Hofer said Carlisle didn’t have anything on the menu produced by the company, but she wasn’t taking any chances.
“As soon as we heard there was peanut butter recall we pulled everything,” she said. “I just didn’t take the chance. I’m willing to wait it out.”
“If there’s a recall out there, any product associated we pull immediately until we get confirmation,” she said, adding Carlisle doesn’t offer many foods with peanut butter.
Franklin and Madison schools checked their products and found they don’t have anything on the menu that is produced by the company linked to the outbreaks, according to officials at those schools.
Madison does serve peanut butter cookies, but makes those sweets from scratch, according to Sally Shortt, the district’s food services director.
