Gov.’s budget would give Middletown funding bump
Middletown could gain nearly $6 million in state funding over the next two fiscal years if Gov. Ted Strickland’s budget is approved by the state legislator.
Strickland’s proposal must be approved by state legislators by June 30 to take effect.
The budget outlines maximum increases in funding for Middletown, meaning the district would get a 15 percent increase - or $2.7 million more - in fiscal year 2010 and a 16 percent increase - or an additional $3.3 million - in fiscal year 2011.
The budget uses a new funding formula, according to the governor’s spokeswoman. The formula factors:
-Student enrollment
-Unique needs of students
-The Ohio Instructional Quality Index
The Ohio Instructional Quality Index embeds teacher quality in the Ohio Evidence Based Model to target resources where they are needed most;
Each district’s teacher compensation rate is assigned an index value based on the following:
-Student Poverty (ODE’s Economic Disadvantage Measure)
-Community Wealth (Federal Adjusted Gross Income and Property Valuation per Pupil)
-College Attainment Rate for Population over the Age of 25 (community measure)
What do you think of the governor’s new plan?
