Franklin discussed facility maintenance
Franklin school officials met last night with a representative from Point Guard — a facet of Steed Hammond Paul, the architecture firm that has worked with many local districts on new school construction and renovations.
Point Guard was developed by SHP to work with schools on keeping their facilities well maintained. The rep. praised Franklin for having a facilities committee in place.
Board of Education President Chris Sizemore he doesn’t want Franklin to return to the “bubble gum” fixes of the past. The district has a 5-year plan for facilities in place and the plan includes fixes like new boilers, etc.
The firm would likely help Franklin take a look things like how many custodians are needed at each school.
The committee didn’t discuss building security or Jarod’s Law. Interim Business Manager Tom York did say he expects to get insurance money to cover most of the cost of tree removal from the September wind storm. York also said it is possible to get up to 75 percent of the cost the district will pay after insurance reimbursements covered by FEMA.
The facilities committee meets again at 6 p.m. Dec. 16.
