Most kindergarten students yet
Record number of kindergarten students
Franklin is expecting to see their highest number of kindergarten students yet, said Board of Education President Chris Sizemore.
The district has hired another full-time teacher for the Early Childhood Center for a morning and afternoon session, as well as a full-time secretary, to accommodate the 233 students they expect.
Adding the new teacher will keep the student:teacher ratio at about 22:1. Without the extra sessions it would have been about 27:1.
Business Manager
With the resignation of Business Manager Jeff Johnson, who took a job with Butler Tech, the board has authorized Superintendent Arnol Elam to bring in an interim person to fill the position for a month or two while the district conducts a candidate search.
Summer School
Sizemore said Franklin was able to operate its summer school at no cost to the district this year. Expected to cost about $7,000, the Franklin was able to avoid spending those dollars with grants.
