Resignation rumors circulating
Contrary to rumors, the Rev. Greg Tyus, president of the Middletown Board of Education, said today, April 25, he is not resigning from the school board.
Apparently, there are rumors circulating in the community that Tyus would leave the board, purportedly because of the district’s announcement yesterday that Jason Krause would be recommended by Superintendent Steve Price to be the next Middletown football coach.
Tyus said that talk of his resignation is “news to me” and he is not resigning.
There will likely be a resignation in the district over Krause’s hiring — but it’s not a traditional employee who is leaving.
Bishop Rudy Pringle became the Middletown High School football team’s first chaplain under Coach Jim Place. He’s held the position for more than two decades, he said.
Pringle plans to resign Monday as chaplain and any other athletic or school district-related activity associations, according to a letter he submitted to the Journal today. Look for his letter in the Letters to the Editor in Monday’s edition of the paper.
After carefully weighing the decision that you have made not to pick an African-American football coach, sends a red flag that this system has no desire to triumph over the racial bigotry and the fears. To do what is right and honorable requires that you go outside of the box of safety and travel a different road. You refused!
The board will vote Monday night on the recommendation to hire Krause as coach and an intervention specialist at Middletown High School.
