Edgewood officials respond to alleged threat
Edgewood Communications Director John Thomas has just confirmed that the district is investigating an alleged threat by a student to bring a weapon to school.
The student was not in school today and no weapon was brought to school, said Thomas. Some students told the principal about the threat and the district alerted the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, who is now investigating.
The student will be disciplined according to the district’s policies, said Thomas. According to the middle school handbook, available on the district’s Web site, a student who makes threats “will be liable for suspension with recommendation for expulsion.”
I’ve put a call in to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office and will update this as soon as I hear from them.
We hear about threats like this from time to time and typically report on them, especially once it gets out in the community and people are wondering what happened. Data shows that children are actually safer at school than at home and the chances of a child is 50 times more likely to be murdered away from school than at school.
