JUCO standout to join RedHawks basketball program
Junior college point guard Chris McHenry has committed to join the Miami basketball program in 2010-11, Miami coach Charlie Coles announced today, June 2.
McHenry (5-11, 185) averaged 16 points point game last season for Garden City (Kansas) Community College en route to first-team, all-region honors. He drained nine 3-pointers in a game last season and set the school record for treys in a game.
“Chris McHenry comes to Miami with great credentials,” Coles said. ”I’m really excited about this young man, because he really fills a need for us in the fact that he’s a very good outside shooter. On top of that, he can penetrate and pass, and I think in time he will be a pretty good defender as well.”
McHenry spent his freshman season at Howard University, averaging 9.6 points per game through 11 games. He scored 29 points in a game against Wyoming.
McHenry, who prepped at Bradley Tech High School in Milwaukee, was regarded as one of the top players in Wisconsin in high school. He averaged 16.9 ppg and earned first-team, all-league and all-state honors.
