Miami announces hockey schedule
Michigan, Notre Dame and New Hampshire are among the teams coming to Miami University’s Steve Cady Arena next season on the 2010-11 hockey schedule announced by the RedHawks today, May 14.
Miami also will play in the Florida College Classic in December.
The RedHawks will play five weekend series against teams from this year’s NCAA Tournament, and there is the possibility of an additional meeting with St. Cloud State.
“I like this schedule,” Miami coach Enrico Blasi said. “We are in the second half of deals with UNH and St. Cloud State, two of the top 15 teams in the country. We are looking forward to Christmas in Florida, playing Maine and then either Cornell or St. Cloud. The league schedule is always tough, grueling at times. Even with 11 teams, we still have to play everyone.”
With just 11 teams competing in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, the league adopted a new scheduling model that does not include natural rivals or scheduling pods. The conference tournament also features a new format with only three series and five byes in the first round.
After an exhibition game against Waterloo on Oct. 3, the RedHawks will face NCAA Tournament teams in each of the first three weekends. New Hampshire visits Miami on Oct. 8-9, then the RedHawks travel to St. Cloud State for a matchup with the Huskies. CCHA play begins Oct. 22-23 vs. Northern Michigan.
November features two interesting road trips for the RedHawks. Miami visits Bowling Green, under former captain and assistant coach Chris Bergeron, on Nov. 19-20 and then will face former assistant coach Jeff Blashill and Western Michigan the followingt weekend. Both coaches return to Oxford for games later in the year, Jan. 14-15 and Feb. 11-12, respectively.
Game times will be announced later.
