How does Tecumseh fall to a 2 seed when they ran the table at 10 and 0. and were number 1 in that region for the last 4 weeks. Then to top it all off the team they play that has a number 7 seed is 10 and 0 as well.

By KC

October 26, 2008 12:42 PM | Link to this

I would say it’s due to Winton Woods playing D1 & D2 teams while Tecumseh has mainly played D3 teams.

By mskiles314

October 26, 2008 12:55 PM | Link to this

That’s exactly why. Woods played 6 DI teams and beat them all whereas Tecumseh played one. Western Brown played 6 teams at DIV and DV and thus didn’t get as many points.

Anna vs Marion Local in week 1? What a shame. Best two teams in the region, one will be eliminated already in the first week.

Gerrad - its called the Harbin rating system. The record is not the only thing that matters, the #wins of the teams you’ve beat matters also. So, a team could be 10-0, and have never beaten a good team. The rating system works.

What about Urbana in DIII-Region 10? They are 9-1, #7 in thw region last week, and don’t get in, but two 8-2 teams do. I agree with someone who wrote that we need a new system for determining the playoffs. GO CLIMBERS!!!

By gotitright

Jeff - think about it. Why is it best to rank teams based solely on their records. That encourages teams to play a weak schedule, and does not prove they are a good team.

DI is pretty easy to call. Colerain will crush Moeller. Wayne will easily handle Woodward. Elder will beat Centerville. And, Northmont will have no problem with Fairmont. Elder is the team to beat in Region 4 to get past the Regional playoffs.

By Joe

Centerville is in for a rude awakening when they visit ‘The Pit’ at Elder. It is the toughest place to play a game, much less a playoff game. Maybe they’ll keep it close?

Gerrard Whitt’s answer>> The 2 teams you mentioned does not play a schedule that is as tough as the other teams. They both play an easier schedule.

By Jack

October 26, 2008 4:22 PM | Link to this

Jeff a new system is not needed. Your team was 9 and 1, how nice but they didn’t play anyone on their schedule that was a more difficult team. Better tell your team to quit playing easy teams if they want to get in. I remember way back when…that Fenwick got in with a 4 and 6 record but their schedule was brutal. It doesn’t take a brainy geekto understand the system. You complainers need to learn and understand how the system works.

Hey justsomeguy, I wouldn’t bet on Colerain as you say “CRUSHING” Moeller. Don’t forget that Middletown got lucky against Colerain, they may very well win but they will not crush them….

By ek - NMont

First of all if you were at the Fairmont N’Mont game you would have seen that the ref’s did everything they could to help Fairmont win the game. Bolts Defense is best in the division and will prevail. Centerville is and will cry as soon as they lose the first round game. it all goes on their coach whom made the stupid call of going for a 4th & 3 instead of punting against N’Mont. They would have played Fairmont back to back but now take on Cinn.. Blame their coach as everyone has done for last 3 weeks.

There’s no comparing Brookville’s 10-0 in the weak SWBL versus Alter’s 8-2 (really 10-0) in the GCL plus the non-league schedule they play. Brookville goes down by three touchdowns or more.

By Randy Hess

October 26, 2008 6:28 PM | Link to this

Best system possible, strength of schedule. The teams who play the best and stronger teams, and wins, gets in. That is why Urbana did not get in at 9-1 and Big Walnut and Defiance did at 8-2 … better schedules, tougher teams. The only better system is to let everyone in like in other sports. Indiana does this and it works too. The Ohio system is a good one. To those who think they are slighted a spot or two … it is not where you start the playoffs … it is where you finish !!! On any given night the 8 seed can beat a 1, a 7 seed beat 2 and so on. The only thing that matters is where you finish …good luck to all the teams that made the Ohio Playoffs.

First I am not that other RJ.. Randy Hess said it best, (sorry for pun) but the ones that play the harest teams and win always goes to the playoffs. Thus when it is play of time, the Bst 4 teams play for the State. Reg One and reg 4 are the ones to beat. Cincy team’s TOUGH. The Elks will follow in the footsteps of the ‘84 (Moeller) and ‘91 (Elder) squads that went to Ciny and beat so “called powerhouse” @ Galbrith Feild on runs to the regional finals (‘84/’91) and state final (‘91). Go Elks! Conditioning and heart always prevail.

I think Tecumseh has the best shot of all dayton-area teams to advance to regional/state finals. I also think the Ohio system is the most effective and the most fair way to win the division. It’s not really fair that Urbana plays in a fairly weak conference, Greenon and Indian Lake being the only real threats the past few years, but they didnt get it. Tough. Good luck to Tecumseh, great season.

I think its unfair to Urbana but its not their fault their conference is stacked with lower tier schools. See all you Irish fans in Portsmouth Friday Nite. Why doesn’t Ohio do like Indiana. All schools participate in the playoffs. Not just the few top teams in the state. This is a slap in the face of the smaller schools and the weaker teams that could have a chance of knocking off a bigger school. As they say, any team can knock off any other team on any given night. No matter how small or powerful. C’mon OHIO. Wake up and get with the program.

I would have to agree with Bill, let everyone participate. Only 1 GMC team in the D1 playoffs. You could make a case for two additional GMC teams to be in above Moeller and probably Northmont and Fairmont. Hamilton and Lakota West should be in.

I have a question for you all…didn’t Alter and Bellbrook play early in the season? What was that score? Didn’t Alter win big despite using an “ineligible” player who was like a 4th stringer? Centerville will get CRUSHED. They suck. Northmont caught Centerville in a down year. They beat Wayne after they lost their star. Northmont doesn’t stand a chance against the elite in Cincy. Wayne beat the elite with Braxton, but it less than average without him. Wayne was Dayton’s only chance. Now that they are Miller-less they won’t even win in the first round. The rest of those Dayton teams suck.

High School football is very unpredictable, Brookville proved that some years ago when we played C.A.P.E, noboby gave them a chance then and well that game turned out to be a win for the devils. Go Blue, beat Alter and make them a memory also.

By ET

To Newscaster: Northmont did not catch Centerville on a down year, Centerville had the game won but Ullery made a stupid call by going for a 1st down with 4th and 3 from their own 35 yrd line. They had 7 pt lead, defense shutting N’Mont out whole second half. If Ullery hadn’t blown game Centerville would be hosting and winning 1st playoff game..They are done. Now N’Mont had the lead at half time with Wayne and their star quarterback played whole 1st half. 2ND play of 3rd quarter Braxton Miller BROKE is ankle as I was on sideline where he went down. I think N’Mont defense was stopping Wayne with or without Miller. If not then why didn’t Waynes defense stop N’Mont Miller doesn’t play defense. All Cinn teams will win out however N’Mont will have the best chance of advancing then any Wayne, Centerville, Fairmont will ever have

The Elks have a great program but I don’t think they have the running game or pass defense to be competitive in the playoffs this season. The playoffs are full of passing attacks. Centerville is vulnerable to the under routes on pass D. On offense, unless they run that big guy, the backfield doesn’t break tackles. The o-line is solid but a runningback has to break at least one tackle on every carry to make a difference.

I think the Brookville/Alter game will be surprising to many. Good thing gas is cheaper so all those Alter fans won’t have wasted too much money driving all the way there to watch their defeat.

Every year we go through this. I’m an Elk alum and supporter, but the Dayton D-1 teams just don’t stack up to the Cincinnati teams as a whole. I’d rather be the seven seed and play Northmont than go to Elder. Maybe they can repeat what happened in 1991 but it’s going to be difficult. And Fairmont, you’re lucky to even be there. You weren’t competitive against Centerville as usual.

Wow, I love all you optimistic Alter fans, unfortunately YOU ARE IN LIKE D-5. thats alright though. But don’t come here saying you can easily take down 2/3 of the GWOC. Alter played Fairmont, an averrage team at best. So now they can beat teams like Northmont, Wayne, and Centerville??? That’s funny because I didn’t see them on the Knights schedule. However on Centerville, Wayne and Good D-1 teams schedules, they are playing teams like moeller, elder, you know…..”good teams” notm a season of cupcakes. But all in all I wish you the best of luck Alter. You will prolly make it to through the playoffs with no problem and make it to the big game. And yes we ALL know the two games you lost were not really losses. If you want to act like you can take down all these D-1 schools. Then quit putting fairmont on your schedules and play some big boys. Not a betting man, but would sure throw some money against a centervillle vs. alter matchup. or a northmont vs. Alter matchup. But these D1 teams dont have time for that when they are fighting out tough games with moeller, lakota west/east ect. Someone will write back, and give me all the excuses in the book, but I still dont see Alter playing anyone decent in the near future. (even playoffs)

How does Urbana not make the playoffs? They beat Tippacanoe who also has 1 loss to the same team that Urbana lost to—Tecumseh? Tipp and Urbana were both 9-1 and Tipp got a #3 seed in Div III, Region 10.

Urbana only played 2 teams with winning records. They lost to Tecumseh an d the other was only 6-4. THey can complain about their conference being weak but what about their 3 non conference games that they scheduled.

Why do Alter fans compare games them and Brookville played against Bellbrook? I think Bellbrook played harder against Brookville because it was a league game and it was their homecoming. I just hope Alter fans don’t think they can just walk into Brookville and win easily. Go BVBD!

Friday will be pretty interesting. Alter thinks there going to slide right to the top. They got something coming. these boys at brookville want to win more then anyone I’ve seen. Home field advantage will help extremely. Alter may be bigger, richer, and meaner. but our boys have hearts and faith. They believe and their crowd believe. I’d be scared if I went to Alter. These Brookville Boys Are Bad.

By Alter’s in the wrong division October 26, 2008 11:15 PM “Alter you will destroy brookville by 30+ only because you’re in the wrong division. Alter shoudl be DII if not DI, no wonder you’re smoking every team. You made it to the state finals as a DII team 2 years ago. If Alter doesn’t win state, that will be very embarassing to the Miami Valley.” Alter was DIII 2 years ago. Also Divisions are determined by student body enrollment not by YOU; dipsh#t

Hey TY, I hate Alter but you say move up in Div. They don’t have to they already play many higher div. teams. Brady, Centerville has been approached many times to play at their home site and refuse by Alter, Carroll and C-J. Not because they are afraid but the win will not help their computer points. I am not saying these teams would win. It just will not benefit a D1 to play them.

In earlier articles the writers incorrectly state that there is only one 10-0 match-up The second 10-0 match-up not listed is Brookville v. Alter, notwithstanding the Knights being forced to take 2 losses due to a ruling by the OHSAA… they won the 2 games, but forfeited them on a technicality that normally disqualifies a school from post season appearances (eg. Trotwood Madison)

Alter Beat Bellbrook in perfect weather, and B-Ville beat them in a rainstorm, muddied field which is why the passing game was grounded (5 of 10), check the scores of games in good weather, they were all blowouts for both teams

Alter won at bellbrook in an early non-conference game in perfect weather, B-ville Beat conference opponent Bellbrook @ their homecoming in a rainstorm & that technicality that caused the forfeits for Alter was an ineligible player, Trotwood got booted from Post season consideration for the same thing.. ineligible player, no matter the reason for ineligibility, they should not play in the post season, but no matter, they will only play one game, then it’s Clinton MAssie v Brookville in week 2 and Coldwater in week 3 (Alter was D2 in 2006, not D3)

Alter lost the DIII championship in 2006 to Steubenville. as long as you know the difference between recruiting and the numbers 2&3, we can see eye 2 eye. you don’t come off as a smart person if you can’t post facts. good luck tonight.

Alter may have played D3 in 2006, but their fall attendence numbers (on what they base the Divisions, was above the D3 limit, only to drop in the spring counts, so they stayed in D3… they are in D4 because of the mega schools causing the top numbers to climb, pushing all division ranges higher, and Alter’s enrollment leveled off due to tuition increases….
