Wayne’s Peters gets another start

For the second straight week, Wayne freshman Tony Peters will start under center, this time against Centerville. Peters was 2 of 7 for 53 yards in a 24-17 victory against Beavercreek.

Wayne rode running back Erique Geiger (221 yards, three touchdowns) to victory and brought some stability to the quarterback spot since Braxton Miller’s ankle injury.

“We found a way, that needle in a haystack,” Wayne coach Jay Minton said. “He did everything we asked him to do. Tony did fantastic job for us.”

Neither Miller nor senior Ryan Bitsko will return this week. Miller is out until at least the first round of the playoffs. Last week, Wayne put Shawn Whitehurst back at receiver and Tre Moore back on defense. But the Warriors probably just can’t hope Geiger does it all against the Elks.

“We’re going to have to throw it,” Minton said. “Hopefully, we’ll play good defense so they have to, too.”

There is no reason at all why Peters should have a problem with Centerville. He’s got his game legs now, plenty of JV experience and a solid game against a very good Beavercreek team! Wayne will hold the Centerville offensive down all night long and Peters will sustain a couple great drives to score. Wayne picks up a fumble or two and later Centerville goes for a 1st down on 4th and 2 while on their own 30, they don’t make it. Wayne scores again, Wayne wins!
