What would YOU tell Bush about war on terror?
President Bush will be in the Miami Valley Thursday speaking at the National Museum of the Air Force.
The president will address the “global war on terror” before a group of community leaders and members of the military, a White House spokesman said. The 10 a.m. event is not open to the public.
If you were given five minutes with the president to share your views of how the U.S. is handling the war on terror, what would you tell him?
Where should the administration’s focus be, in your opinion?

Interesting comparisons between Vietnam and Iraq… They are comparable in the sense that they were political wars that never should have been fought. It is true that the Socialist Republic of Vietnam values a free market now, but it was the ruling communist party that encouraged these free market reforms in 1986. The US must clean up it’s mess in Iraq regardless of how irresponsibly we got in it, but if we are to fight this war on terror, it will not be us vs Iraq or us vs Iran or us vs any country. We must learn to combat an enemy who has no home and it will be one of our biggest challenges yet. I don’t have any questions for this president because I either don’t care or I already know what the answers are. I’ll wait for the next president…By kim

The ignorance of those that support the crimes against humanity committed by this awful cowardly man and his administration is unbelievable. Pray for our brave soldiers ( who were sent into harms way based on lies) and their families. Pray also for Bush, Cheney and company that they might repent their evil ways for oil and wealth. It is amazing how many of you can be truly upset about 4,000 lives lost in Iraq and Afghanistan, fighting to free others, yet at the same time willingly disregard an equal number of heartbeats silenced each day so you can have “choice”, and somehow justify your moral indifference.By TRS

I too am a vet of the Viet Nam war and I see things totally different than “Viet Nam Vet”. The parallels drawn between Viet Nam and Iraq simply lack merit because it is a different place, a different time and a different enemy. Its like comparing WWI to WWII. Viet Nam was a part of a 70 year, long term war fought against communism. The goal of Viet Nam was to prevent communism from spreading in Southeast Asia (and beyond). Did we achieve our ultimate goal? 18+ years after the end of the Viet Nam war, communism was basically defeated! That was not because of Viet Nam alone, but it was a part of overall war. Fast forward to the war on terror - what is another long term war. Early skirmishes occurred in the 80s and it was not taken seriously until 9/11. Iraq is but one component of a multi faceted war which will last well past Iraq. If we are successful in Iraq, we will have friends on the border of Iran, the main terrorist state in the world today - a pretty good strategic location which may cause them to think twice about any mischief they want to encourage. One huge difference between Viet Nam and the war on terror (and yes, Iraq is part of that war) - The VC had no intentions to harm America on its mainland. The same can’t be said for Islamis extremists.By alwaysup37

I could never look up to the guy as a President of anything let alone the United States. There seems to have been, over the years, a lack of care as to ‘fitness of character’on part of the Nation. Oh well, guess it doesn’t take much to inspire some. To each his own.By VietVet

I served in the Armed Forces and am a Vietnam Veteran. I am Bush’s approximate age. He is creating another Vietnam now in that we are occupying a country that did not ask for our help, just like Vietnam. We are trying to train the Iraquis to stand on their own two feet, just like the South Vietnamese.(The South Vietnamese failed miserably and so will the Iraquis when we finally leave) We are trying to use this country to protect us from terrorists just like we tried to protect our country from the Communist influence in Vietnam. We are killing our soldiers in Iraq for what reason?( just like Vietnam) and we are wasting trillons of dollars that we sorely need to fix this country. In ten years, we will have a wall with the names of the Iraqi War dead just like the Vietnam War Wall and in ten years we will ask ourselves the same questions about the Iraq war dead that we are asking about the Vietnam War dead- What good did we do and why did we sacrifice our soldiers lives on people who could care less and aren’t worth one American life.If Bush would have gone to Vietnam, like the rest of us, he would have known these comparisons and would, perhaps, not have repeated these mistakes of the past on going to a war that we can’t win due to the type of war that it is.Bush is just reinventing history along with Darth Cheney, who also didn’t participate in any war, but is eager to start one.By Tom

President Bush has done a magnificent job of keeping the war away from this country. If the left wingers get their way, we will be fighting the foreign faction over here, i.e., if we have any guns, which they will try to take away from us. GO MCCAIN!!By Richard

You people all seem to forget, he did not go into this war without a unanimous decision from congress, both Republican and Democracts. Lets say you think your teenager has drugs in his room and you tell him you are planning to come in search for drugs and if I find any I will call the police, but it won’t happen until I make sure the police say it is ok for me to do this.I t might be a couple days before I get an answer. Do you think you will find anything? Iraq had almost 6 months to get rid of anything they might have had stored. As for anything else, things were going pretty smooth until the Democrats took over congress.Since then everything has went south. Think about it.By Richard

Mr President, you have failed the American people in your war on terror. You failed to get Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan and choose instead to fight a war of choice in Iraq which had nothing to do with the attacks of 9-11. In Iraq your mistakes, like not having a postwar plan, disbanding of Saddam Hussein’s army and not having enough troops to bring security to Iraq, has left our military in the middle of a civil war. When the war started your administration predicted the mission would take only 4 to 6 months to complete and cost about 60- 80 billion dollars. You thought we would be greeted as liberators. You even declared mission accomplished. Now five years after the war began the cost of the war is now over 500 billion dollars. The biggest loss has been to our military, now over 4,000 men and women. Many died early in the war because they didn’t have proper equipment to protect them from the roadside bombs because you didn’t believe the warnings from others outside your administration that Iraq could spiral into a guerilla war after the fall of Saddam Hussein. Meanwhile, in Afghanistan the Taliban is making a comeback. Now as a last ditch effort you have tried a troop surge to allow the Iraq government time to meet certain benchmarks, which still haven’t achieved. Because of the surge our military and their families have been pushed to the limit. Many soldiers doing three to four tours in Iraq. More than 20,000 of our finest have been injured which has put an incredible amount of pressure on our VA hospitals. Many are not prepared the handle the number of casualities. You say the surge is working but just this week violence seems to be increasing as we start to withdraw troops to pre-surge levels. Today we see fighting among Shiite militias and the government troops in Basra because the government has failed to find political solutions between these groups. Just as you, Mr President, have failed the American people and our military because of your mistakes in Iraq. It’s time for you to take responsibility and find a conclusion to the war in Iraq for the good of country.By Tomas

In his speech before meeting with the families of fallen soldiers President Bush repeated his tired mantra: That America is safer because the terrorists are operating in Iraq and not launching attacks on our shores. A callous statement! It is alright for the Spanish to be blown to bits in Madrid and the English in the London subways, as long as it is not happening in the United States. The American presence in Iraq did not prevent terrorist attacks in Spain and the U.K. Those countries were targeted only because they were American allies and part of the “Coalition of the Willing.”By Paul

I enjoy reading the anti-Bush myrmidons vomiting forth their bile. I thought my occasional “brain flatulence” (IE being wrong) on various subjects was disturbing, but the absolute denial of various proven facts (not all) concerning our involvement in the middle east proves to me that being in a Republic with democratic ideals is worth it. We need the voices of dissent. These people prove that even ignorant people have a voice, and there is freedom for all. Is it “offensive” to confront evil? People will die doing it. You anti-freedom/anti-capitalism mob mentality idiots are proof that totalitarianism will still have a chance. Live your lies, embrace your “drive by” rhetoric, wrap yourselves in “misinformation” provided by your leash handlers. How’s it feel to be controlled? Your abhorrence for truth is puzzling. I would tell him that he is the mostest bestest goodest of all the tippity-toppiest toppermost. I would thank him for protecting this country by attacking iraq who are probably all terrorists there anyway and this is not a war over oil like the dummycrats say because its probably our oil anyway. And I would say that the economy is strong and global warming has not been proven and thanks for not raising taxes because I need that money to pay for groceries. And I would say its a good thing he doesn’t bail out people in the mortgage crisis because if they are so dumb to fall for a variable rate scam then they deserve what they get but its a good thing to find billions to bail out the banks who floated those predatory loans because thats not a bail out but just good business. And I trust because if he lied about the war it was just a little white lie and I trust him for telling it.I would alos tell him that up is down and down is up, in is out and out is in and bad is not bad because it is good.By obama2008

There is a HUGE amount of ignorance being posted. When bush came into office there was a surplus. When bush came into office our economy was good and people weren’t loosing their homes left and right. We weren’t in an unnecessary war were thousands of people have died. Before bush we could protest and have the Presidential motorcade go by and actual see us. Before bush our personal information wasn’t searched illegally. Before bush our presidents actually had been outside of the US. bush hadn’t even been to Mexico before he became President. This pitiful excuse of a President has put our economy down the drain, help kill thousands of people(he thinks it’s romantic), ruined the educational system, made the dollar worthless, and bailed out corporations instead of the citizens that need help.By Pam

According to Montgomery County Recorder Willis Blackshear. We the people of the United States should Bale out the people who over-extended themselves on there own Home Mortgages. As soon as we bale them out they will just run up there credit cards. So we can bale them out again because they are irresponsible to begin with. But if we quit the war on Terror we will have the money to Bale them out. Or we should just put it into our pocket were it belongs. Maybe George can fix the School system too; they also are not responsible or for the money they spend because it is not there money so spend it on whatever. To this day, I hear him say how well everything is going, but I’m not seeing much proof. (I don’t call hearing report after report of suicide bombers or IDE deaths to be a good sign.) Illegal aliens kill 25 people a day in America, if you use (365 days x 5 years x 25 people a day) you come up with 45,625 dead people. That is way more then the bad guys/Islamic terrorists have killed in Iraq. Maybe if we were to start using illegals as organ donors they would go away.By SSW

Do you understand that Americans are stupid if they think there is no war on terror? All terror attacks so far have been foiled. We took the war to them. There may have been no terror link in Iraq. However remember they attacked us first and we went where it was believed to have originated. Most Americans underestimate how much the terrorists hate and revile us.Thank you for keeping the enemy on the run. My only regret Mr. Bush is that stupid AMERICANS may possibly elect either Clinton and Obama neither of whom seem to really understand foreign policy and I sadly admit that I was an Obama supporter until I realized how not ready for President he really is. What a bunch of morons. Can one of you idiots show me one once of evidence that Bush has made one dollar in the oil business in the last eight years. Didn’t think so. Grow up and quit being so simple minded. Associating Bush with the oil industry because he is from Texas is like associating Clinton with WalMart because he is from Arkansas. HmmWal Mart big evil box store experienced its biggest growth during the 90s when the Clintons were in power.I see a connection. Sounds stupid doesnt it. Yes Bush had a hand in an oil company for about a minute. If he wanted to make money in the oil business there are a heck of a lot of easier ways to do it then running for President. And what the heck does the mortgage crisis have to do with the war in Iraq? Does anyone think the two have a cause and effect? If you do you obviously dont know a single thing about economics. Do you think the mortgage crunch would magically disappear if the war had never started? For those of you bleeding heart liberals who dont understand the whole problem let me spell it out for you..Liberal Democrats put pressure on lending institutions to make it easier for everyone to own a home. Lending institutions, against their better judgment, lend money to unqualified people. Predictably, unqualified people default on balloon loans that had low introductory rates. Unqualified people default and lose houses. Gosh, didnt see that coming. But, like all good liberals you feel the government should provide us with everything, housing, medicine..blah.blah.blah. Hey I have a car payment due. If we didnt have this darned old war I could make my car payment. God help us if a Democrat becomes President.By Jimmy

I would ask him about the North American Union, an unpublicized plan to combine Canada, the U.S. and Mexico into one “county” subject to the laws of the United Nations….nixing the Constitution in the process. I would ask him why the Fed is weakening the dollar…oh yeah, it helps to make people negative on the dollar so when they bring up the new currency (the Amero I believe) folks will be too happy to go along…like sheep. I am a former Army officer. I have only voted Republican my entire life. But I now believe Bush and his one world order desires (building on his father’s efforts) deserve to go down in history as a worse President than Nixon. It sickens and saddens me.By Philjoann01

I see a lot of democrats posting, or just plain radicals who have never served in the U.S. Armed Forces. I do not agree with everything President Bush is doing, but at least he is doing something, at least more than the democrats. He listens to the people trained to do battle. Someone said we had no reason to go into IRAQ, what did Hussien do to a tiny country just south of him, they were his people, did’nt matter to him. He was a bully and would have tried to take over the entire region. Most people screamed for an all volunteer service, so shut up and let them do their job. It appears it is all the draft dodgers who are doing all the complaining. The news media has a lot of draft dodgers. Give this thing a chance. How about all the cooperation we are getting from North Korea? We give they take and then give us the FINGER.By Mike

Thanks for being a PROMISE KEEPER. You promised to sign into law the Banning of Partial Birth Abortion. You did TWICE. I would ask for advice on enforcing a codified ordinance by shutting down Martin Haskell’s operation. Hope you will have the opportunity to tactfully continue to be a PROMISE KEEPER.By SUPER GENUIS

Dear Mr Bush, My questions:how do yu manage to bear up against unrelenting and unthoughtful attacks by the mainstream media and their unquestioning followers? Do you realize that there are many Americans and Iraqis that are forever grateful that you took up the cudgel to actually take some action after dozens of UN resolutions against Sadam? Do you think you will live long enough to see history justify your intervention into the course of the Middle East, which was inevitably headed toward nuclear war? How do you carry your resonsibilities so nobly in the face of so much ignorance and distrust?By mnjyckque

Well, there is really no “War on Terror”. This was just a marketing tool dredged up in the smoky backrooms of this administration to justify attacking a country which had not attacked us, in order to gain a foothold and an endless American military presence in the heart of the Middle East. It had nothing to do with terror. There was a brief War on Terror which was initiated by our movement into Afghanistan and the ousting of the Taliban, who were giving safe haven to one who had actually been responsible for attacks on us. But once the wheels were set in motion in Afghanistan, it was only a matter of time until the administration used this action as a segue into Iraq. So what would I tell him? Not a damn thing. Because this administration does not listen to anyone. It is obvious that they will not be deterred from their hegemony regardless of the opinions or desires of any American. The arrogance exhibited by Dick Cheney’s response to the question about American’s overwhelming turning against the war tells it all. SO WHAT!!By Rich

Wow! Only FIVE minutes? It would take some serious thought to come up with only brief comments or questions to pose to him. Maybe the most appropriate question would be this: “Mr. President, do you honestly believe that any aspect of current conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq or elsewhere can be described as FANTASTIC, EXCITING and ROMANTIC, as you did during a recent videoconference with our troops in Afghanistan? Please explain this for all of us who don’t quite understand what you meant.”
