Just because someone did better that their predecessor does not mean that they did a good job.

Ani, what a cheap, and in my opinion, racist shot. The diction or dialect a person speaks does not in any way indicate a persons level of education. The man has earned a doctorate. Just how much more educated do you think he needs to be?

Dr. Percy Mack, I would like to thank you for your commitment and the hard work you have done for the children and parents of this community. I wish you Gods mercy, and blessings as you leave our city of many who forget the conditions of this school district just a few years ago. Thanks to you and many others like Gail Little john, Yvonne Isaacs and the Kid First Committee who sacrificed for an ungrateful community who would take the very low road with insults as you leave. The question is when have they been in to read to a child, or came in to volunteer in the cafeteria or done anything to make our schools better? My prayers our with our newly elected board and I share these words with you and with them….living for the glory of God (education is a ministry) will require a change in your priorities, your schedule, your relationships, and everything else. It will sometimes mean choosing a difficult path instead of an easy one. (R. Warren 2002) Keep God and Children First in making Right Decisions God Speed, Thankful Community Member

There was no where but to rise at DPS when Mack took over. However it seems to me if a man in his position cannot speak correctly, ie, chil instead of child, he needs a course of english. Let us all hope, for the sake of Dayton’s children, that the new person in this position is better educated.

It’s telling that several of the ones rejoicing here about Dr. Mack’s career advancement seem to be unable to spell. Johnny’s “what does that say abotu” is probably just a typo but folks, if you want to make an intelligent point about (abotu?) competence, you might be more careful about (abotu?) presenting ideas rationally instead of typing in all caps and spelling the word SHURE. Unless, of course, you intend to reference the famous brand of microphone.

I am with Laura on this one… I think Dr. Mack did as good a job as anyone could possibly do. He was visible in the community. He was a good listener. He knows what constitutes a quality education. He always encouraged the students to aim high and do their best. If you want to point fingers at the people who are failing the DPS district… look to the parents who do not provide for their children’s basic needs.

I can’t say I agree completely with those who are glad to be rid of Dr. Mack. I think he was put in a position that there was no way he could win. I had a few personal dealings with him over the years and found him to be a genuine, caring person. Every time he promised me he would look into something- he did. I think many people are going to be even more dissatisfied if anyone “in-house” takes over for him. I am not convinced that there is anyone out there that can improve the problems in DPS and keep the public happy. Whoever takes the job will have to go into it knowing it is a thankless job. I don’t understand the people who are complaining about Dr. Mack or anyone else who wants to better their employment position whether it is to be closer to family, seek new challenges or improve their financial status. Shouldn’t those be goals of everyone? My best wishes to Dr. Mack on his move.

It saddens me to know that DPS has yet another loss and another obstcle to overcome. I hope the next superiendant will be motivated and dedicated to the kids of and community of Dayton.

I for one will miss Dr. Mack. He has done a lot of good for this district. Why is it everyone focuses on the bad and forgets what it was like before him? Don’t start celebrating until you know who is replacing him.

Indeed tis the time to celebrate and be merry but rembember only one of the heads has been cut off from the Medusa downtown, watch another head by the name of Braithwaite pop back in his place. Nothing will get fixed as long as King Mack’s minions and courtiers still work for the district. Hopefully they will follow their master to Columbia. Good riddance.

Good riddance. There’s nothing I hate more than administrators supposedly working to better our city/schools when they don’t even want to be here. Obviously Mack couldn’t care less about Dayton. So long Percy.

This is good news. Hire someone local. How about well known funeral director and outstanding citizen Wayne Wheat from House of Wheat? How about brilliant mayor Rhine McLin?

I enjoy reading your items. I worked at the Vandalia Drummer awhile back and remember you from those times. Keep up the good reporting.
