I don’t see a problem with it. Some of the school girls taht I see at times it would be an improvement. Besides as I rember correctly when I went to schooll the boys were allowed to wear their football jersy’s to class on game day.
I’m 14 years old and the only reason grown men go to the games is to see the cheerleaders. Has anyone ever seen them taking pics of the cheerleaders with their camera phones? I HAVE. Plus some girls wear the shorts under the skirts up their butts!!!!!!!!!! They show off and it makes me sick. They can tell whats going on and brag how men hit on them but then act like they don’t know whats wrong when things get out of hand. This is why I NEVER want to cheer for Monroe.
Wow, I think I’ve heard it all now. Where else on earth can people be so concerned about a hem line and on the same block walk right around a homeless person as if they weren’t there. Nice set of priotities we have here isn’t it? I say let em all go around naked. That will also most likely get rid of our obesity problem because nobody fat looks good naked. We’re all too hung up on what we wear or don’t wear. Let’s get behind something that matters shall we???
It shouldn’t be about the skirt length, but about the uniform also. Do football, baseball, basketball players wear uniforms to class? Why can’t the cheerleaders change in the locker rooms before the games? The players do. If a school has a dress code it should be followed no matter what is worn. Quit whinning and deal with it. You will find out after High School that the rules will get much tougher and if you want to earn a pay check you will have to follow those rules.
These uniforms have been getting progressively more provocative as time goes on. There is absolutely no reason for it. They could cheer just as well in something appropriate for their age and respectful to to themselves.
No. These are teenage girls we are talking about!? Not adult women capable of making their own decisions. Lets teach these girls a little self respect. They shouldnt be wearing outfits like that period. They can cheer just as well in long paints or shorts. These are children for crying out loud!
My opinion in this whole topic is a very strong oppinion.
I was a cheerleader at fenwick and then switched schools to attend monroe, when i started my junior year at monroe i loved the feel of the school.. i was never the girl to wear the “short shorts” or the short skirts besides my cheer outfit. When a cheerleader where’s there outfits they wear them to show there school spirit and to show there pride in there school and there sport.
Who ordered the uniforms? Did someone not look or ask about the inches or length in the catalog? Or call if not sure before ordering? Did the school send the information to the advisor before ordering about this year’s concern’s? Is this a new company or style? Made in oversea’s or local? Why doesn’t the school express the skirts back to the company with disapproval and replace ASAP with school’s special instruction’s. Or use last years of other girls. Do the girls wear full coverage bottoms?
thank you moms!!! when i went to school we all complained about it then and nothing was done. all was forgiven because they are usually the rich kids with rich moms and dads, so this has been an issue for many years and it is only fair to all.so let me say it again THANK YOU MOMS!!!!
Maybe, if people don’t see the difference between a sporting event and a class, that would explain why the kids seem to think that going to school is a game. So is skipping school. I applaud the districts who make the effort to remind students (and parents) that not all clothing is appropriate for every situation. It is no wonder that professional attire has been so lacking of late. It is too bad that the first impression these parents make is that their kids should be above the rules.
Young men die in Irag and Afghanistan after high school at age 18. Quit this studid and repugnant discussion now. We have a madman in Iran, and Russia. Our home values are in ruination. Young ladies have more revealing photos on myspace than any parent could comprehend. Park the uniform when its game time. No golf or cleats worn by men in gym, let them wear their sweater like young men do on “game day.” Shame on Journal for making an issue out of a non issue. Case dismissed with prejudice.
To Footballmomfan:
Your kid is not the only kid on the field or in the school for that. Every kid out there is there for a purpose, including the BAND!!You’re there to see the game, I’m there to see the band!!As for the cheerleaders, when are they going to get some new cheers, instead of using the ones from last year? Get new skirts and please get some new cheers to motivate the crowd.
IT’S ABOUT TIME THIS WAS ADDRESSED……WHY DO WE THINK OUR TEACHERS OR ADMINISTRATORS SEEM TO ALWAYS BE IN TROUBLE FOR MISCONDUCT WITH HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS??? COULD IT BE THE WAY THEY DRESS??? MAYBE IF THE GIRLS SHOWED SOME DIGNITY WHILE AT SCHOOL THEN SOME OF THESE GROWN MEN WOULDN’T LUST AFTER THEM.
Okay,i go to Monroe && this whole skirt thing is rediculous. BUT,i get where the cheerleaders are coming from…they honestly don’t care about this whole thing anymore, they want it to be over with.
Then again, the soccer players aren’t allowed to wear their shorts to school either. And everyone kno’s soccer shorts are not short.
This whole 3inchs above the knee thing is stupid, if you have long legs you can’t wear shorts plain and simple..and thats not fair. The rule is stupid, end of story
I say let them show their thongs which is the only reason behind the shorter than normal skirts. Any mom in support of this is a wack job and probably works as a pole dancer herself.
J…Maybe the teachers and administrators could teach the kids if they weren’t such a problem. Make them follow the rules and teachers won’t have to deal with girls crying to them about all the sexual harassment they experience from hormonal boys. Kids can’t have it both ways. If you are going to dress like a floozy, then expect that you are going to get the comments. And until you spend some time trying to deal with these kids as a teacher, don’t try to pretend you have a clue.
This is absolutely ridiculous. The last time I checked the reason for school is education. The administrators and teachers are worrying more about students clothes than actually teaching the students. The parents should worry about what their children are wearing. Children are sent to school to learn, not to be bothered with what they are wearing. People always talk about everyone being an individual, so let these students be their own person. The way these children dress is their individuality.
If this is such BIG news, then why wasn’t it an issue YEARS AGO when the other schools in the region decided to make their cheerleaders follow the dress code? Monroe is not the first school to do this, but they do seem to be the first one with ignorant parents who want to make a big deal of it and not show their children what it means to comply with rules. Quit crying about it and accept the rules.
I’m sitting here in disbelief right now. What is it about you cheerleaders that makes you think everyone is jealous of you? What is there to be jealous of? Where is cheerleading ever going to get you in the real world? Rules are rules. Learn that now and save yourself a lot of heartache later on in life. No one is jealous of you - certainly not with the stupidity you are all showing about this subject. Your sport shouldn’t be about your uniform. Have pride in YOURSELF, not your uniform.
MONROE CHEERLEADER…If the only thing you have to be proud of is wearing a stupid uniform, I feel very sorry for you. What’s so great about showing it off? Or is it your body you really want to show off? Girls at other schools wear their warm-ups, cover their bodies, and still show school pride. Get a grip.
The fact is this should have never been a “story” at all if it had been handled at the level that it should have been - the cheerleading coaches and leaders. Once the rule was in place they just communicate it to the girls and make it a team policy (versus a big meany rule coming down from the adminstration) and it never would have snowballed into this. As some stories have pointed out other schools have had this policy and it is usually enforced at the coaches level.
This is the most ridiculous issue I have ever seen. People posting that they should do away with cheerleaders and that they are useless! Cheerleaders are some of the most conditioned and talented athletes out there! Thier dedication to thier sport, no matter how inane to others, should have earned them the right to wear the uniform! These complaining people should move into th 50’s and keep bitching about rock and roll, YOU KNOW IT MIGHT LEAD TO DANCING!
Let’s get to the real facts….I want to watch the football game…I don’t want to watch the cheerleaders or the band. It is a football game…not a band game or a cheer game. How does that settle with everyone….it is about as stupid as all the other post on here. I agree. Let them be kids and stop all the hating. Every child should be able to express themselves in whatever sport or club they choose. Quit being so negative to the cheerleaders. Good luck all athletes and students.
Redskin Educator needs to quit hating on the cheerleaders..so what if band is part of a class that doesn’t mean they should be respected more than a girl who likes cheerleading. That is supposed to be what is so great about a school is getting every student involved and to do what they like doing. I think a lot of people who a hating on the cheerleaders have a secret fantasy to be one. You are all right it doesn’t change the official outcome of the game but we don’t need to ban them.
Let’s just make all women wear an outfit that covers them from head to toe - even their faces and eyes. No more skin to tempt anyone. Isn’t that the logical extension of this argument?
I think the whole cheerleader thing should be banished. Its a throwback from the days when girls were just supposed to be just pretty quiet meat. Girls should be taught to respect themselves above all else and I don’t think its up to the schools to teach that. Parents should want more for their daughters AND SONS. It needs to be mentally ingrained from birth that respecting yourself does not mean putting on an underage panty show for all the overage adult men that come to the game.
You cannot have a double standard! Plain & simple! If someone is permitted to do something, then everyone must be permitted. That is how laws & rules work. This is what our country is based. This is why the pilgrims left England! To those who say we are jealous-YOU ARE CRAZY! At my school, the band and the guard are MUCH more prestigous than the cheerleaders. That is the way it should be. That is part of a CLASS. It is educational! Cheerleaders don’t change the game result. They are useless.
Rock on cheerleaders — you should be proud!
Proud enough to follow the dress code like all other students.
Prove how proud you are and follow the rules!
The fashion skirts just barely cover your behind. If this is on ever girl at the mall-and it’s not indecent eposure-obviously parents(most)don’t care and wear those micro minis themselves. So who cares?I think BULLYING and VIOLENCE hould be a main tpoic here.
I have some thoughts I would like to bring to the table over this issue. “If the skirts are to short to wear to class, then why is okay to where them at a game?” Isn’t this a school function that requires students to follow the same rules they have to during the day. Also “If the skirts are to short to wear why does the school provide them?” Why are they not providing skirts for the cheerleaders that meet school rules? Just some additional points to ponder over this issue. Wear the skirts!!
If it goes against the rules, then they should not be allowed to wear it. Things never change. When I was in school, they always treated the cheerleaders and football players better than the rest of us. They got away with everything. I am happy to see a school finally put thier foot down and say they have to follow the rules just like else.
Good grief jealous people, stop bashing the cheerleaders and their uniforms. As far as it being a distraction for the boys, get a grip, anything can be a distraction for a teenage boy, not just a short cheerleading skirt. We always wore our uniforms to school, skirt and all and it wasnt a problem. cheerleading uniforms are not much different than what i have seem other girls wearing to school and yes, lots of kids slip by the dress codes. rock on cheerleaders!
In high school I was on the swim team. We weren’t allowed to wear our swim team uniforms to class. Nobody expected to be able to wear their uniforms all day. Extreme example, but same principle. The cheerleaders can change clothes like anyone else.
Well, I personally think the schools don’t know what they want to do. My kids just started going to Trotwood City Schools this year and in the Hand book under the uniform requirements it says this “skirts (mid-thigh), skorts (knee length” For those of you who don’t know what a skort is it’s basically shorts that look like a skirt. So tell me why the Skirt can be shorter then the Skort? This is not a mistake either, this is the actual rule…. JUST DOESN’T MAKE SENSE.
I graduated in ‘94 and cheered for 5 years at school and 1 year at college. Our skirts were not immodest, but they also violated the school’s dress code. NORMALLY, we dressed up on games days. We had warm ups that we wore occasionally on game day with our tops (with long-sleeve, turtle-neck bodysuits underneath). We did not wear our uniforms to school. Our coach would never have allowed it. In fact, we always wore our warmups to games and only changed into our skirts for the games.
After reading so many post with grammatical errors it amazes me that so many find this an important issue. Rules are rules period. Can we begin to focus on their education now ?
I think the cheerleaders show support for your schools ,but if they have to go by the rules with their uniforms ,then leave them in the locker till practice or game time to cheer,so not to upset anyone. But the football players & other sports shouldn’t be allowed to wear no part of their uniform to school either. But school should stick to all the dress code rules.Like the pants or other things with holes in them, midriff tops ,etc. Rules are rules.
Wow, anything to get the cheerleader’s picture in the paper. FOLLOW THE RULES and quit asking for special treatment. When I went to Monroe, it was who you were or who you knew that got you what you wanted. Thank you to the current board for making EVERYONE follow the rules, no matter who you are or know. Hopefully this will help teach Monroe that everyone should be equal instead of how it has been in the past.
I agree with going by the rules of school dress code, but it doesn’t just apply to skirts.Look at the jeans worn now, below the hipline and tops that show the cleavage of the breast. Now you want to talk about distraction, show me a young man whose eye level is above that when they talk to a girl who lets it show. You drive past some of these schools and see these young ladys walking around the school grounds, you wonder “what the heck ?”They look like grown women or street walkers where is the kid?
Alas, the debate continues. Wear the short skirts to class or not wear the short skirts to class. How about doing away with cheerleaders altogether and encourage your daughters to be something bigger than eye candy. Think about it, how great will it sound when you’re 30 to say, “Oh, I made a big deal out of not being allowed to parade around in my hot little skirt in the hallways of Monroe High”? LOL!
I go along with the school board. Parents need to let the school have rules for kids and they need to stick behind the school board. If kids can’t follow rules now whats it going to be like when they really get out in this world. They can wear there cheerleader outfit with pants underneath there top. whats wrong with that!!! Go SCHOOL BOARD.
Let’s not stop at banning the short skirts. Let’s make a dress code in all schools that only permits the pioneer skirts that must cover down to the ankles and must cover the entire body including a high collar that must be buttoned tightly around the neck. Then, let’s get out the old episodes of Leave It To Beaver and watch June Cleaver as she cleans house in her pearls.Later, we can watch the flogging at the stockade in the town square a la Puritan style! That’ll teach ‘em not to get out of line
Here’s what separates Monroe schools from Middletown schools: “Either you enforce your dress code consistently across the board for all students or…..
there’s no reason to have it on the books.” WAY TO GO
MRS. LOLLI!!!!!!!! It’s about time someone with some
sense is willing to do what is right and treat all
students EXACTLY THE SAME NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE OR
WHAT THEIR NAMES ARE!! Rules are rules, let’s follow
them and concentrate on something that is far more
important.
What’s the deal, the cheer leader outfits have bottoms, under neath to math the skirts. It’s not like they have Thongs on.I think they call the bottoms spankys, but they look like full bottom bathingsuit bottoms. What’s wrong with these people. These girls work hard at the cheers and games. Why do people always start crap about them ? Find something worth arguing about. Grandmaw Brenda, from Farmersville,Ohio
As a high school cheerleader, I loved wearing the uniform. But when I looked at the pictures of these girls I must ask WHY are these skirts so short? What are the advertising… team spirit or themselves? What kind of message are the adults(cheer coaches, parents, principals) sending to these girls? It’s okay to show everything that God has given you when you cheer? Not only are these skirts too short for the classroom, they are too short to represent the school.
I fully understand the pride that cheerleaders have in wearing the uniform and representing the schools. I loved cheering in high school. There is a dress code for a reason and these girls are NOT above the rules. And why must they look like they are advertising themselves rather than the school with the WAY TOO SHORT skirts? Cheer coaches: Stop choosing or allowing these uniforms for your squads. Let’s respect these girls’ modesty and stop displaying them like strippers.
the ONLY people who are posting these negative comments about are all jealous. you probably werent a cheerleader in school, so you dont know how it feels to wear the uniform. we feel so proud to wear those. its a tradition. as soon as you see your name on the varsity list, the first thing you wanna do is show off your uniform! please just stop the nasty comments..none of you know how we feel.
i agree with jean who says in other words that we need to be focusing on more important things. Another thing change for the pep assembly but wear your warm-ups to school.
Ladies, teachers, parents you should direct some of this energy toward putting a halt to AK Steel/SunCoke’s pollution emitting facility that they are trying to put in your school district’s backyard not the length of your cheerleaders skirts. Wake up and address the real issues in Monroe’s community that will directly effect the health of your children.
First off you can’t say it’s ALL cheer moms. I am a cheerleader myself and I know for sure my mom doesn’t dress/act like that. You can not and should not put that sterotype on cheerleaders moms. I know for a fact that other sports moms dresses like “cheerleader moms”
Why not FULLY compromise by modifying the uniform to have skirts that are a length that is compliant with the dress code? That way the girls can wear their uniform with pride!!
The alternative is to let the girls only wear the top part of their uniforms and then you’ll end up with uniform tops and happy bunny pajama bottoms. Will that be okay?
Wow this is CRAZY!!! I’m a cheerleader (not for monroe but) and the entire time I’ve cheered since jr. high we’ve never been allowed to wear our uniforms to school because they didnt fit our dress code. The soccer girls arent allowed to wear there uniforms because there shorts don’t abide and neither is the track team. How are they any different. I agree with whoever said that the swim team doesn’t go around in there swimming suits why should the cheerleaders be any different.
Seriously this is a joke.
All the girls love to wear their uniforms. It’s a part of cheerleading. Cheerleaders bust their butt to make the team, improve, and work just as hazrd as any other athletes or harder. Really your taking the love out of cheerleading. When if a silly rule like wearing your uniform to school is causing this much trouble. Who would want to cheer in the first place?? It’s suppose to be fun! Let the girls wear their UNIFORMS! It’s like any other sport.
i think its rediculous really. i mean, how many years and traditions do schools have that cheerleaders wear their uniforms to school and pep rallys? think about it…are they going to jump and kick in jeans at a pep rally? i dont think so. they can wear their tops to school? when i went there, it was against the dress code to wear sleeveless shirts, and im sure it still is, so how can they still wear that? watch out, next thing is going to be chastity belts…
I am a current cheerleader for Lakota and Midwest Cheer Elite. I know for the girls that I spend all the time wtih aren’t worried about their lengths of their skirt. All we care about is showing spirit, hitting our tumbling, and yelling for our team. Honestly, this is getting carried away to far and the girls can’t even do their job. There is no way that girls “butts” are hanging out when first off everyone wears spankies and secondly the spankies cover the parts that would be inappropriate.
I believe the cheerleaders should follow the same rules as everybody else but for people to grip about them complaining about the rules is a joke. Isn’t that what our soldiers are fighting for in Iraq our right to disagree and be free to disagree with things…some of you people that are up in arms because the cheerleaders want to fight to wear their skirts are the same people who probably opposed the draft in their day etc. Isn’t that how our country was founded on the freedom to disagree.
Why is a skirt causing so much commotion? I can’t believe that an article of clothing has so much power….come on have you read some of these posts? The dress code at Monroe is not going to change the fact that you will still have teenage pregnancy and teenagers having sex…..it wouldn’t matter if you put them in a nun’s habit. Check your stats though…most young ladies that are involved in sports are less likeley to have a teenage pregnancy than those who are not involved.
I was a cheerleader for 12 years growing up and encountered the same problem in junior high. It wasn’t that our “cheeks” were hanging out, as some people put it, but there were shorter than normer skirts.
My issue was cheerleaders wear spankies under their skirts so inappropriate areas don’t show. If the girls are being respectable then let them show school spirit. If not permitted then no other athlete should be allowed to wear their uniform either.
ok…so it is still in the news. Ok my suggestion is bench the ones who are whining and get some girls that didn’t make the squad who would really like to cheer instead of worrying about what they look like on game day. I am sure attitudes would change then. I’m honestly sick of hearing about it.
See your all missing the point, mom and dad who are twenty or thirty somethings think they need to look hot themselves, so it’s okay for daughter cheerleaders to show there butt cheeks in class. Moral decay no life lessons no self respect, you cant teach something you were never taught. Like those of us who had mom’s and dad’s who wore dresses, and suits to work and had self repect
I am not a resident of the Monroe school district, so I don’t know the answer to the question I am about to ask. Doesn’t the school provide the uniform for their cheerleaders? When I was in high school, the school provided the uniforms for the cheerleaders, if this is the case, isn’t this just a bit hypocritical?
Speaking from experience, it is a great honor to wear the cheer uniform as well as it is for the football players to wear their jersey. It sounds like a simple solution tho. Just allow the girls to wear their cheer top with appropriate pants or khakis. In general, uniforms for school is the best solution. Not as expensive and no hassel with what to wear in the morning. with uniforms there is no competition amongst the students with who has the most expensive jeans, etc.
What’s really sad is to conduct a parent/teacher conference and see PARENTS walk in with their short little shorts and skirts. It is then obvious to the teacher where the student gets it from. Hormones are rampant in young boys. Come on, parents, you know this. Nothing has changed. Show your daughters how to respect themselves, and for cryin’ out loud, PLEASE lead by example.
The cheerleading skirts are too short for the classroom and for pep rallies and games too!! I am glad Monroe Board of Education and all school officials involved are restricting the short cheerleading skirts. But, take a look at what all of the other students are wearing, much of which is inappropriate. The provocative dress in the classroom is NOT appropriate and distracting. School uniforms would be the better solution.
It would be different if the girls of today had the same respect for themselves as 20 or 30 years ago, but that’s not the case. Take a walk around our schools and see how many girls are pregnant. I am personally tired of seeing butt cheeks hanging out all over the place, from cheerleaders and other girls as well. How can their parents let them out of the house in the morning? Maybe the schools could be about EDUCATION if the parents stepped up and took responsibility for dressing their kids.
Is there nothing better to do in Ohio than gripe over school dress codes? What was good in the past is now taboo? What puritan had nothing better to do than save our young women from showing a few inches of leg? Hey let’s make women dress in burkas and veils!!! That should protect them from the evils of the world and keep others from having impure thoughts. Gimme a break.Maybe people should be worried about the sad shape of the local school systems and if they have the money for a sports team.
Well, I comes down to it is the DRESS CODE FOR THE DISTRICT!!!. If they choose to wear the skirt then they have to wear something under it. It’s ok for the cheerleader not to obey the dress code and not ok for the other students. Maybe they shouldn’t buy the skirts so short or buy some other style. The whole education system in the united states have strict policy on dress codes now. We’ve have been pretty open to it for years. Just be glad they do not have to wear uniforms.
C’mon guys lighten up, this is about a cheerleading uniform, it represents school spirit, and rallying for the team before a game, at least in 92 when I graduated from Franklin, cheerleaders wore the uniforms and football players wore their jerseys for the pep rally not a sex rally!! I think everyone is getting hyped up about this in the wrong way. I understand times have changed, and our kids arent as safe as we were then, but it isn’t like this is sexcapades folks, its only school spirit.
So, if a non-cheerleader wears a short skirt to school, she’s in violation of the dress code. But if a cheerleader wears her uniform skirt to school, Ms. Turner is proposing that it’s OK?
I agree with some of the comments above … football players don’t wear their uniform pants to school, swimmers don’t wear their suits to class. Why are cheerleaders any different?
Everyone has to remember that the world and are children are not the same as it was years ago .I’m sure that someone was spotted sitting in class or not acting appropriate in there uniform. I would bet that this is where this whole thing came from. I’ve been a cheer coach for 10 years and had a daughter who cheered all though school and college. I have seen the changes. Some girls carry themselves well and some that don’t! So coaches and parents tighten the ropes is all I can say..That’s what I do. Cheerleaders represent the school and they set at a higher stander then the football players..etc..That’s just the way it is!
Good Luck!!
The real problem that we should be addressing is that our children are not being taught the things AT HOME that they should be, such as RESPECT for one’s self and all others!!! You can wear a cheer shirt and still be modest and poise. It’s called being a LADY!!! As for the girls who dress like “hookers” who buys their clothes??? If parents were more involved with their children, we wouldn’t NEED a dresscode!!!
I was a cheerleader all throughout my years in school and after reading all of the posts on here the one thing that runs through my mind is that the uniforms have not changed in the last 30 years, so why is it suddenly such a huge issue? What I do think has changed is our perception! I have a 14 year old daughter who is also a cheeleader and I am very proud of the way that she carries herself while in and out of uniform. (Continuation to follow)….
I can see that the BIG issue here is WHAT kids wear! What happened to EDUCATION?? Too large a percentage of the kids in this state can’t pass the OGT’s, and are falling through the cracks! We’re raising a generation of useless kids. PARENTS..fight for what is IMPORTANT, it should be EDUCATION.. not short skirts! Rules are Rules!
Come on Tonya. Is school about education or what. What is your daughter learning from this? Can the swim team come in uniform? The band? The Theatre Cast? Just dress for the occasion. Dress for class, cheerleading, band, etc. as if you were serious about learning and not trying to be a distraction. By the way. How many Homecoming Queens have been pregnant at Monroe in consecuetive years?
Anyway, put them into a school uniform! Brown shirts and swastika arm bands. No, wait! The school officials are are ready in the arm bands. So, let’s dress tha girls in burkas and the boys in robes and turbans!
I think this is all too crazy. Is this all the school system is worried about is what these girls are wearing? Shouldn’t they be worried about the lack of education given in the school system today? I hated cheerleaders in school but it was a tradition to wear the uniform on game day. These girls don’t see it as being “sexy” they see it as a status symbol. I now have a daughter who is a cheerleader and I am able to see their point of view.
Dress codes should be made even stricter. To wear these cheerleading outfits at school or on the field would allow their tattoos (tramp stamps) to be clearly visible. School uniforms should be required and the mothers who hustle their daughters to appear this way in public and then wonder why people are upset are frankly, a bit sick themselves. One of the reasons (among many) that foreign kids routinely beat us academically is that they keep sports totally out of school!
The cheerleaders or not should not dress like a hooker in school Cheerleaders and anybody that is in sports think they have know rules just look at the pro’s
A few people brought up a good point: If the skirts are deemed too short while attending school, why are they OK at the school’s athletic events? In the former, the girl is walking or sitting; in the latter, she is jumping, kicking her legs up and perhaps being raised up into the air. Seems like you could see up a skirt a whole lot more at the sporting event than you could in the school.
Did I actually read in the article that this has turned into “an international media frenzy”? Oh, brother. It’s not even a state-wide media frenzy. It seems to be more of a spoiled brat frenzy.
Yes it is, this was carried on CNN and it rolled from there. It is funny because how childish the parents are in the whole thing.
After reading some of the comments I have to say that I know cheerleading is a sport. If you are worried about the cheerleaders being stereotyped then they should just stick to the dress code. Just becuase the skirts are appropriate for cheering, splits, gymnastics, doesn’t make the appropriate for school. Just like other sports uniforms aren’t appropriate for school hours. It’s not really about punishing the cheerleaders it’s about modesty people.
How our teenage girls dress and conduct themselves in public is a HUGE concern and a very relavent topic. This skirt topic come down to an issue of SEX and modesty. The fact is is that men are naturally drawn to women, and when teenage girls dress “with skin showing” it grabs the attention of men - and that detracts from education. Let’s give the teenage boys something else to think about and teach our girls to dress modestly and with class.
AMEN! That the school set a dress code and is actually enforcing it!!!! The way these girls and boys dress at school/anywhere is horrible. I wish more schools would have appropiate dress codes. Children should be taught to dress for respect not to dress to express/impress. I do feel that if the school is going to enforce a skirt length for the girls then that length should be enforced DURING all school related activities because they are Representing the School.
Absolutely not! The cheerleaders need to learn that when there are “rules” this applys to them as well. That is whats wrong with children today is they want to break a rule for this one or that one and before you know it everyone wants to do it because they are getting to do it. In my opionon, no rule is meant to be broken. Not even by the cheerleaders! Good job Monroe for standing up to this “rule”! EVERYONE should follow the “rules”! Not just some! :)
After reading a few of the comments, I think the people who wrote them need to go back to school to learn spelling, punctuation and sentence structure. Appalling! Some of them are parents—what kind of an example are they setting? Never mind the short skirts! Concentrate on continuing education.
You would never see a member of the swim team wearing their swimming uniform, or a member of the womens volleyball team wearing their spankies to school. Follow the dress code period.
Cheerleader’s skirts are MUCH too short. I’m not old or a prude. I’m actually only 24 but when I was in highscool the skirts certainly didn’t leave much to the imagination while they were standing let alone when they sat down. I think all schools shouldn’t let the cheerleaders wear their skirts to school.
Did I actually read in the article that this has turned into “an international media frenzy”? Oh, brother. It’s not even a state-wide media frenzy. It seems to be more of a spoiled brat frenzy.
If their skirts are too short for the school’s dress code, then they shouldn’t be allowed to wear them as uniforms, either. There is absolutely no reason why the cheerleaders’ uniforms should be that skimpy, it’s completely unnecessary and just encourages the fact that these girls are seen as sex symbols, especially to young high school boys. Is that really what parents want their young cheerleaders seen as? High school uniforms should coordinate with the dress code, period.

There is a dress code for a reason and these girls are NOT above the rules. And why must they look like they are advertising themselves rather than the school with the WAY TOO SHORT skirts? The alternative is to let the girls only wear the top part of their uniforms and then you’ll end up with uniform tops and happy bunny pajama bottoms. Will that be okay?

I am a current cheerleader for Lakota and Midwest Cheer Elite. I know for the girls that I spend all the time wtih aren’t worried about their lengths of their skirt. All we care about is showing spirit, hitting our tumbling, and yelling for our team. Honestly, this is getting carried away to far and the girls can’t even do their job. There is no way that girls “butts” are hanging out when first off everyone wears spankies and secondly the spankies cover the parts that would be inappropriate.

Why is this even making the news?
Anyway, put them into a school uniform! Brown shirts and swastika arm bands. No, wait! The school officials are are ready in the arm bands. So, let’s dress tha girls in burkas and the boys in robes and turbans!
Anyone that agrees with this is a moron!
