Twilight + High School Musical = ?????
When I reviewed Twilight last November, I wrote: “Watching Twilight reminded me of seeing High School Musical 3: Senior Year about a month ago. And that’s not a bad thing.”
Well, it turns out I wasn’t the only one who was thinking along those lines. Turns out that none other than Vanessa Hudgens has reportedly auditioned for the role of Leah in the sequel New Moon, due out this November. Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass) directs.
I don’t pretend to know anything about the character of Leah, but on the basis of what I saw of her in HSM, I’m dubious. She seems too featherweight, too wispy to play a vampire. Maybe its her reedy singing voice that has me unnerved.
For those who ARE in the know, tell me what you think.

Perhaps she’s looking for something besides the crazy the teenybopper teenager that HSM made her out to be??! I don’t think she’d be a great fit though. And just FYI, Leah is a werewolf, not a vampire. New Moon is a whole new segment of the series, and while the vampires are definitely still a major part of the story…the werewolves really come into play in this one. But your comment about her being too featherweight/wispy still applies.By Kelle

It would probably be a good move for her career, but I just cannot see it. I would give her the utmost respect if she pulled it off, but I just can’t see it. And finally, I JUST CAN’T SEE IT.By Lea

NO NO NO NO! She is ALL wrong for the character. I also have trouble seeing her as a “spiteful shrew”… West Coast, that’s Emily you’re thinking of with the scar. Leah’s one year older than Bella (and Emily, only a couple of years older than that… maybe). …2 cents from 30-something FANATIC…By West Coast Britt

oh hmmm…she might make a good Leah..although Leah is a character with a huge scar on her face, so I’m not sure how Vanessa will play that off, but it could be a nice career move for her, to break out of the High School Musical bubble. Although, Leah is a somewhat older character, if I’ve imagined it correctly lol..like around age 30, not the age of Vanessa lol. We’ll see!
