A big Pittsburgh Steelers’ victory and a Super Bowl XLIII party recipe to die for

THE STEELERS WILL ROLL

AS YOU DEVOUR THIS

TASTY TAILGATE TREAT

===LUDWIG AT LARGE is hungry & ready to “tailgate” on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 1, 2009). I’m sharing my “Bacon Wrapped Grilled Shrimp” recipe with loyal readers — see item below — and now I want you to share your favorite sports recipe with me. Please post your recipe in the “Comments” portion of my blog. Thank you, and have a Super weekend.===

I don’t like the Pittsburgh Steelers a little in Super Bowl XLIII.

I like ‘em a lot.

For seven magnificent reasons: Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger; strong safety Troy Polamalu; defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau; and the linebacker foursome of James Harrison, James Farrior, Larry Foote and LaMarr Woodley.

The Arizona Cardinals can study all the film they want. But the fact is there’s absolutely no way to simulate the Blitzburgh defense.

Cleveland, Cincinnati and Baltimore see the Steelers twice a year and can’t figure them out. The Arizona Cardinals will see them once this season — on Sunday, Feb. 1, at 6 p.m. And that’ll be enough.

What’s scary, to me, is the Las Vegas Oddsmakers have set the line at 7. I wouldn’t take the Cardinals if you gave me 13 points. But the crooked noses in Vegas sure know what they’re doing. Which leads me to believe that the Steelers either take their foot off the gas pedal or Big Ben turns into Neil O’Donnell and throws a couple of picks.

The key is Arizona’s offensive line vs. the Steelers’ linebackers. The Cardinals must mass protect Kurt Warner and give him time to get rid of the ball.

I’m rooting for Arizona, the underdog, but I fully expect a Pittsburgh celebration and all-night party along the city’s gorgeous Golden Triangle.

What's your Super Bowl prediction for Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009?
Steelers win by TD or less
Cardinals win by TD or less
  Steelers win in a blowout
  Cardinals win in a blowout

THE CHICKSTER’S SUPER BOWL RECIPE

“Bacon Wrapped Grilled Shrimp”

Ingredients:

• 2 pounds large to extra large shrimp (deheaded & peeled)

• 2 large jalapeno peppers

• 1 1/2 pound Monterey jack cheese

• 2 pounds sliced bacon

• Toothpicks

Directions:

• Slice peppers and cheese into thin strips.

• Cut bacon slices into 2 or 3 sections.

• Cut shrimp like you were going to butterfly it (split and flatten).

• Insert slice of cheese and pepper.

• Wrap bacon around.

• Secure with a toothpick to hold both ends of the bacon.

• Grill until shrimp are done.

Suggestions:

• Cut the slices of bacon in half and partially cook the bacon over moderate heat to render some of the fat without allowing the pieces to crisp.

• For added zing, first marinate the shrimp (30 to 60 minutes at room temperature) in 4 tbsp. melted butter with your favorite spices (a dash of cayenne pepper, cumin, onion powder, garlic & fresh lemon juice).

• After wrapping a slice of bacon around each shrimp and securing with a toothpick, place shrimp on hot grill for 4 minutes.

• Turn and brush with reserve marinade and grill for 4 more minutes or until shrimp is thoroughly cooked.

“BIG BOY PIZZA” TESTIMONIAL

From Kathy Haubner in Hamilton, OH“Dear Chick: YOU ARE RIGHT! This pizza IS about the greatest dish in the history of tailgating —- if not the history of the WORLD. Made this pizza (using my own freshly made pizza crust) to welcome in the white death down here in Hamilton and my husband now thinks I am the world’s greatest pizza chef. If you close your eyes and savor the flavor…. you would swear you are eating a Big Boy sandwich! Great recipe. Glad I found it!”

Thanks Chick I just gained weight reading your blog. Another marinade for grilled shrimp. Melted butter w/ garlic, teriyaki, basil and lemon juice. Wrap shrimp around big scallops, add hickory or cherry chips to grill and you have heaven on a kabob

It’s hard to imagine what NFL Shop would do with the 50 trillion boxed and ready-to-ship Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl XLIII Champion t-shirts and the commemorative leather-bound Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl XLIII Champion books with collectable DVDs they’ll start advertising in the 2nd quarter if the Cardinals actually try to make a game of this thing. Hopefully the refs step up to the plate to ensure the same WWE outcome the Steelers enjoyed in Super Bowl XL or else the NFL may go bankrupt! ;-)

To all loyal “Ludwig At Large” readers: Sorry I’ve been a little hit-and-miss on the blog lately. The 2008 Bengals season sucked the life out of me, and I need time to recharge. So how do I relax? Like Sly Stallone in the movie “Cobra,” I “look for trouble.” Seriously, I’ve been covering boys and girls high school basketball … and it feels like a promotion. I’ve had a blast, and will continue having a blast. I can tell I’m getting old (54-born in ‘54) because I’m writing stories about the sons and daughters of players I used to write stories about. And for anyone who wants to take a swipe at me, go ahead … because my Blog Bouncer — lean & mean Cousin Pat — IS BACK! I love my Blog Bouncer! Cheers, Chick

Let me just get this straight. This is the same “Chickster” that picked the Ravens to beat the Steelers, in Pittsburgh, in the AFC Championship game and NOW is pro Pittsburgh saying “I like ‘em a lot. I wouldn’t take the Cardinals if you gave me 13 points.” Let me just take a few more aspirin, as I recover from my head spinning in the land of prediction and bandwagon confusion.

Watch out for the Blog Bouncer! I think our Chickster was just rootin’ for WA, and trying to keep the SB from being a Penn state SB.

Watch out for the Blog Bouncer! I think our Chickster was just rootin’ for WA, and trying to keep the SB from being a Penn state SB. Chick seems to have gotten part of his wish as far as HW is concerned.

And if it wasn’t for the wishy washy in us, we would be pretty predictable.

let’s see, which uniforms are the prettiest? i think i will go with the cardinals. the redbirds are so pretty. i think some are too young for franco harris, so that doesn’t work anymore. but, the pretty stadium and uniforms count more than anything else, these games on screen. games on screen. no more games on green. just games on screen and you know how that is.
