One man’s opinion on the Reds, Bengals

SHOULD BOB CASTELLINI SELL THE REDS?

SHOULD BENGALS DRAFT BLINDFOLDED?

ABOUT THE CINCINNATI REDS …

Cincinnati Reds owner/CEO Bob Castellini proclaims, “We have a contender” and that the team is “going to be there at the end.”

Castellini also said the Reds have reached their payroll ceiling by running out of money for 2009.

I believe that if the Reds don’t remain in contention, manager Dusty Baker should be fired and Castellini should sell the club.

I want what you want … a winner.

And I don’t want the slumping national economy to be used as an excuse.

See you on Opening Day.

ABOUT THE CINCINNATI BENGALS …

For the seventh time in 11 years, the Cincinnati Bengals are back where they don’t want to belong … with a top 10 draft pick.

Akili Smith, Peter Warrick, Justin Smith, Chris Perry, David Pollack, Johnathan Joseph … and those are just some of the first-rounders.

Let’s not forget Charles Fisher, Mark Roman, Lamont Thompson, Keiwan Ratliff, Odell Thurman, Kenny Irons, Jerome Simpson … and those are just some of the second-rounders.

Recent history shows that Bengals owner/president Mike Brown would be better off throwing darts at his draft board blindfolded.

Which pro team are you most looking forward to following in 2009?
  Cincinnati Bengals
  Cleveland Browns
  Cincinnati Reds
  Cleveland Indians

Bulls eye Chick! When oh when will the Reds be back in contention? I am forced to live among Marlin fans - hands down - the worst fans in regard to team loyalty. But when we talk about championships, I have to reach all the way back to 1990 and the wire-to-wire team. I running out of ammo down here in the Banana Republic (figuratively speaking of course in that - believe me - there’s plenty of ammo floating around down here).

Well, do you ever think we’ll hear MB say anything about our Bengals like BC says about the Reds? Everybody has a good team and can reach the playoffs ‘till the season starts. Unfortunately the season starts and whoever has the most wins, wins! at the end of the season.

Hey Chick, what’s your take on the cash cow NFL reportedly seeking to phase out NFL Films due to the depressed economy? Sounds like a P.R. nightmare in the making to me.

The Reds are a small market team. What you see is what you get. Without a salary cap, things will only get worse. If you want outrageous team owner spending, then become a Yankee fan. I’m surprised you’re still interested in grossly overpaid, self indulgent, me first pro athletes who don’t give a you know what about die hard fans. As for the Bengals, Mike Brown will be remembered as the worst General Manager in the history of the NFL. Due to his tenure as a GM, no one will ever be able to surpass his incompetence. As for doing away with the salary cap in the NFL, the Bengals are the only team that won’t be affected by it. You can’t go any lower than being the worst run NFL franchise. That said, Mike Brown as owner of the Bengals, does an excellent job of maximizing the return on his inheritance. Thank God I’m also a Dolphin, Giant and Yankee fan. At my age I can’t wait for the Reds and Bengals to do something right. It’s not going to happen in your lifetime either. Come to think of it, I doubt if it will happen in my grandson’s lifetime.

Dusty will be gone probably but I fear the next owner would be worse than Castellini. Castellini actually seems to like baseball and winning.

The Reds will win the division this year, mark my words amigo. The Reds improved more than any team in the division, especially up the middle.
