Dear Ravens: Please beat the Steelers
BALTIMORE RAVENS THE IDEAL TEAM
TO PUT THE STEELERS IN THEIR PLACE
I won’t be in front of the TV to witness it.
But I’ll be following the proceedings from Pittsburgh, Pa., and Glendale, Ariz., on my laptop while I cover the Flyin’ to the Hoop boys high school basketball tournament at Kettering’s James S. Trent Arena.
I’m taking the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles in the AFC and NFC championship games, respectively, on Sunday, Jan. 18.
I love their defenses and I believe both teams have enough offense to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals.
It’s high time somebody putS the hated Steelers in their place. No better team to do that than the Ravens, who moved from Cleveland to Baltimore following the 1995 season.
When I look at Ravens QB Joe Flacco, I see a lot of Ben Roethlisberger. Both are similar in many ways. They’re big and strong with nice arms. It’s just that Big Ben is a better scrambler than Smokin’ Joe.
Roethlisberger (Miami of Ohio) was the No. 11 overall pick in the first round of the 2004 draft, while rookie Flacco (Delaware) went No. 18 overall in the first round of the 2008 draft.
And let’s not kid ourselves … both quarterbacks found a soft place to land on their respective draft days. Both hit paydirt when they fell into clover because they landed on teams with great defenses, brutally-strong running games and terrific receivers.
Here’s hoping Ray Lewis & Ed Reed stamp out Hines Ward — whom I believe is the dirtiest player in the NFL — once and for all.
And that Ravens right offensive tackle Willie Anderson, the ex-Bengals’ great, achieves his goal of playing in — and winning — the Super Bowl.
On the NFC side, I look for Eagles QB Donovan McNabb and Philly’s defense to dominate, and I look for Kurt Warner and the Cards to fold like a cornflake box under the weight of a steel-toed boot.
Guess who else gets a ring when the Ravens win the Super Bowl?
Ex-Bengals wide receiver Marcus Maxwell.
He resides on Baltimore’s Injured Reserve list. The Ravens picked him up this season after the Bengals released him.

I love watching broken hearted Steeler fans. Especially when it happens in their own stadium. Remember last year when David Garrard and the ‘vaunted’ Jaguars offense knocked off the Steelers in Pittsburgh? Although this won’t be as big of an upset this year, I still think that Big Willie and the boys will get it done.By Chris

Chick, you are an idiot. How could you hate the Steelers more than you hate the Ravens? Oh, Hines Ward blocks people when they aren’t looking. Ray Lewis was convicted of covering up for his friends in a murder investigation. Which is worse? And are you really advocating that the Ravens intentionally try to badly hurt Hines Ward. Stamp him out once and for all? So, do you want him dead or just badly hurt? What kind of a person are you? I am dissapointed in the Dayton Daily News for publishing your hateful comments.By Chris

Chick, I just can’t get over how misguided you are. The Ravens have a ton of dirty players. Terrel Suggs admited the defense had a bounty on Rashard Mendenhall when Ray Lewis broke his collarbone. Ravens cornerback Frank Walker has admitted to spitting in mitch Bergers face during a game this season. He said it was an accident. How do you spit in someones face by accident? The Ravens are classless, just like you.By Goodapplegal

Not only do I cheer (loudly) for the Steelers I, at times have been known to boo (also loudly) for the Ratbirds. Tomorrow I will be proudly waving my Terrible Towel as the black and gold celebrate another victory and you, Chick lick your wounds. The only positive to the Baltimore team is their coach who was lucky enough to attend Miami University (like Ben and myself). You would be surprised how many Steelers fans there are around here….then again, you shouldn’t be surprised; who wouldn’t want to be a fan of an incredible team?By Mike

it’s nice to have the AFC North back to normal. The Steelers dominating and the Bengals fans whining. The Bengals fans complaints are just like their team: irrelevant. Enjoy watching Pittsburgh win an unprecedented 6th Superbowl guys.By photoman

“Ex-Bengals wide receiver Marcus Maxwell. He resides on Baltimore’s Injured Reserve list. The Ravens picked him up this season after the Bengals released him”. Cincinnati must have ran out of room for him to be added to their IRL. There seems to be controversy too, in RL’s past.By Livin in Oz

Wow, Chick. Wishing to stamp out Hines Ward once and for all? What a role model for the little kids. I too will be cheering loudly for the Steelers to win not only against the Ravens but in the Super Bowl. They have shown great resilliance and the one thing the Bengals nad Browns both lack-the true attitude of what it is to play on a team.By Over The Rainbow

Dearest Chick, You are a complete moron.Does being a beat writer for the worst organization in sports require you to say the most ignorant thing that pops into your pinhead.Hines Ward the dirtiest player in the game. You idiot. That team of convicts you cover is a joke. You’d kill to have a player like that.Maybe Kieth Rivers should pay attention to his suroundings. If he had that shot he would have ripped Ward’s head off.You cover the largest collection of thugs in sport.Just today Darnay Scott.Your columns read like a police blotter. You and your team are embarassing.Hamilton County should put a dome over PBS and Sy Leis would have his new jail.Oh,who do you think wins the Super Bowl so I can bet the other way.You are an IDIOT!By luvable loser

He’s right chickster..you are an idiot. Hines got knocked out of the game. It must have made your day. But who’s still going to the Super Bowl because they played as a team? And he’ll be ready in 2 weeks with no whining. There are more Bengal fans coming on board the Steeler train everyday. You might want to rethink your columns..you idiot.By BENGALS FANS = PATHETIC LOSERS

It’s pretty pathetic that the only thing Bengals fans can do is complain about who needs to beat who in the playoffs, only because they’re not in the playoffs — AGAIN!By MikeBrownSux

Chick, way to keep crying about Hines Ward. The Steelers whipped the Bengals twice this year and would have done the same if they played 100 times. Face it, the Steelers are superior to your Bengals in every way, and until Mikey Brown goes, they will continue to be. Until then, keep whining about how everyone else is too dirty…..By Brian

Off Topic. Chick where are you? For a guy who updates his blog at least daily, missing five days straight makes it look like you have fallen off of the face of the earth. Hope everything is alright with you and yours.By psychostats

I was thinking the same thing, Pete. Where’s Chick? If he was on hiatus, we might expect him to have mentioned it in his blog. Let’s hope he’s okay and still intent on blogging.
