Monday wrap-up: Carson’s ‘fine;’ Watson’s coming back; is Chris Henry doomed?
BENSON’S ROLE COULD EXPAND
ONCE HE LEARNS THE OFFENSE
QB Carson Palmer came out of the Dallas game in good shape with no further damage to his right elbow.
“His elbow is fine,” head coach Marvin Lewis said. “We’ll see where he is Wednesday. But he came through the game fine.”
Palmer threw for 217 yards and 2 TDs against the Cowboys, and showed fairly good accuracy except for a wild overthrow to Chris Perry while scrambling out of the pocket.
“He was on the move,” Lewis added. “And I’m sure he wishes he had it back, but we didn’t make a good connection there.”
Lewis said the club expects to re-sign backup TB Kenny Watson after he was terminated in favor of WR Chris Henry, who didn’t catch a pass.
As TB Cedric Benson learns more of the offense and understands the blocking in pass-protection that’s needed, his role will expand because starter Chris Perry (5 fumbles, 3 lost) has become a liability with his lack of ball security.
Who gets cut when Watson comes back?
It wouldn’t be a total shock if Henry gets cut.
He looked lost on the field and wasn’t in the game when he was needed most — the ugly 2-point conversion attempt that failed with 7:39 to go.
Trailing 24-22, Palmer and TE Ben Utecht didn’t hook up on a low-percentage fade patter in the left corner of the end zone.
Palmer’s pass was bad and Utecht’s attempt to catch it was worse.

As I asked James A in another blog, why does anyone continue to devote their time and money to support this irrelevent team? I grew up a Bengals fan, and supported them for 30 years. I’m done. I’ve lived in Colts and Titans territory and fought the urge to support franchises that actually cared about their fans and their product. I post here because I can’t figure out why anyone sticks around rooting for this culture of futility. Doesn’t anyone else get that they are just out to suck as much as they can from your wallets?By bigrobj

if u r a bungal fan…then u r not a football fan……if they won a game…they would not even know it….they have been told they will be 0 - 16…and will live up to it…and will promise fans “wait till next year”…just like the reds…By psychostats

JumpedShip, it’s hard to completely give up on your boyhood team. It’s not a phenomenon limited to Bengals fans. Think of Lions fans and Clippers fans, and fans of any other historically inept team. As I recently read on a Bengals forum, “you don’t choose your team, it chooses you.” Our allegiance is part of the fabric of our lives, with memories going back to childhood. Chalk it up to human frailty if you want, but it’s something we all have to work out in our own way. I’m sure you’ve heard all this before. Personally, I’ve gradually pulled back from spending money, and I don’t encourage my kids to get wrapped up in the team. If you can make a clean break, great. Some of us aren’t able to do that.By JumpedShip

Psychostats, I hear you. I’ve lived near Indy, in Evansville, now 45 minutes north of Nashville over the last 13 years. I’ve stayed with the Bengals. My 12 year old son likes Carson, but roots for the Patriots and Titans. Why can’t this franchise leadership commit to quality? Don’t even worry about promising championships, just commit to putting the best product on the field. Why? Because they view this as a one way charity, YOU and all the other Bengal fans donate your hard earned time and dollars to “THE FRANCHISE”. Bengal Fans are being absolutely stolen from. I’m not doing it any more. I had to come North for business 2 weeks ago, and I saw all Bengal Merchandise at a Meijer on sale at 20% off already. I respect those that stay the course, but y’all are getting hosed by the Brown’s, and I’m not contributing any more.By JumpedShip

BTW Psychostats, I appreciate the childhood team comment. I feel like I’m watching a fatal car crash, I know I should turn my head and drive on, but I can’t resist the carnage. One benefit of moving around the country is that you get to appreciate other team cultures. After 15+ years out of Ohio, the Bengal Culture smells like infection. The top management spreads the virus. I understand why you keep the faith. But you have invested more than your team has invested in you. And you’ve gotten very little return. I hope you’ll pick another vehicle to invest your energy, money, and time in. Maybe it’s biking, or volunteering, or canoeing or anything but wasting Sundays and money on a Cincinnati pro football franchise. Thanks for your input before.By CincyMike56

While I admit its hard to be a bengals fan now I grew up in Cincy and will always remain a bengals fan. Its difficult to argue with people that justify leaving the fanbase because of the unquestionably bad practices of mike brown but i’m not leaving it. In todays NFL anyone can turn things around in a year or two. Brighter days are aheadBy JumpedShip

CincyMike56, If I could award the equivalent of a purple heart it would go to folks like you. You are being cheated and stolen from. I didn’t realize it until I left for a long time. The game isn’t on the field, the game is in every effort to extract dollars from your wallet. These MBA’S care only about their “Sucker Contribution Ratio”. The “SCR” measures $$ you throw their way. I hope your brighter days view is correct. Just please review the definition of insanity. It is pasted all over this franchise.By Robert Young

While I can see why some people will say they will no longer follow or suppoet the Bengals what I will never understand is the some people expend so much time and energy putting down those who still are fans. And I’ll admit some conceit. When someone who has not missed a home game (preseason/87 strike games excluded) in 24 years speaks I’ll listen. At the end of the day most people have not put in trhe emotional and financial investment the true fans have. If that makes you want to laugh at me, ok. Bandwagon jumpers need not apply.By Brian

Cut Chris Henry?!? Mike Brown would sooner cut out his own heart than forsake his man-crush again. Shame on you Chick for even suggesting such a thing.By larry

chick, your comment on chris henry doesn’t make any sense. 1st,why would they cut him if mike brown wanted him back in the first place?2nd,of course he looked lost! he hadn’t practice in 4 games and he isn’t the one who dictates who goes in on any given play.that’s conservetive bob’s job.By Robert Young

I think Chick may be right. Remember Mikey told Marvin to give The Village Idiot a chance. That is all he asked, and as much as we hammer Mikey he has never been accused of coaching from the owners box.By SD

Chick is WRONG about Henery, and almost everything else. EVERY comment, by players or coaches, I read about Henery last week was positive. If Henery sucks so bad, please explain why they bothered to find him a roster spot when they didn’t need to until this week. Please explain why he played a significant number of snaps. Plus from watching on TV he looked to be more engaged with the team than I have ever seen him. Giving him a chance doesn’t mean he has to be played. He must be better than Caldwell or Simpson since they have hardly been in for a snap all season. If you hate the Bengals so much why don’t you find a new job Chick!By SK

Henry was rusty & needs a chance. How many chances remain for PERRY. I’m wondering who he knows.
