“Beam me up, Scotty!”
Star Trek fans are in for a real treat. William Shatner, the actor who portrayed Captain James T. Kirk of the U.S.S. Starship Enterprise in the original Star Trek TV show just published his autobiography, UP TILL NOW.
This is another case where the audiobook is more amusing than the actual book because Shatner reads it. Can you believe this guy has been acting since the 1950’s? And he is still a star! Amazing.
This is his story. I’ll confess that I loved the original Star Trek series and Shatner’s recollections of the program that beamed him to stardom are the high points for this listener.
Of course then there was TJ Hooker and his more recent success on Boston Legal. He really is almost a parody of himself. Have you ever heard the record album, THE TRANSFORMED MAN, that he recorded back in the 1968? Now that is a collector’s item.

Cpt. Kirk may have had the swagger and intergalactic love-drive, but Dr. Spock was the sex bomb of Star Trek. All that logic and cool reserve, just a facade to veil his wild side . Remember the episode where he had to return to Vulcan to embrace his inner beast? That was hot. He kicked Kirkian a*s.By Mark from St Paul

Whereas others could’ve played the captain of the Enterprise (such as Adam West, Jack Lord or Jeffrey Hunter, who starred as Captain Pike in the first Trek pilot), NO ONE could’ve played Kirk but Shatner. Shat’s delivery, his arrogance and ability (necessity?) to steal every scene made Kirk who he was, and Trek the phenomenon that it is. Very loosely an “ensemble” show, Gene Roddenberry’s “Wagon Train to the stars” was mostly a documentary of Kirk’s “cowboy diplomacy.” While I love the other characters and appreciate the performances of the supporting cast, William Shatner IS Star Trek for me and thousands of fans.By Riverdale Ghost

The secret of Star Trek was that it was something reasonable, remotely possible. And, it came at a time when people needed a future. Without going into his acting ability pro or con, others could probably have handled that Captain Kirk role if they had had a similar physical appearance, which I think was an important element.By victor mickunas

I fondly remember you running around Des Moines in that homemade Enterprise uniform of yours, wearing Spock ears and flashing Vulcan peace signs at everyone.
